Turning Gold Britannia’s into Gold Bars…

Thoughts please…I’m considering trading either 8 or 16 gold 1oz Britannia’s for 250gram or 500 gram Gold Metalor Bar. Very conscious that the coins are CGT free whilst the bars are not. Just interested in thoughts. Pics below. And yes - in secure vault.

Hi. For what reason? Is there margin to be made in the trade or because you prefer something about a bar or something else?

Without knowing the goal I'd keep Brits

I'd recommend keeping for two reasons.

1) large CGT aspects.

2) you have been down this road before, you traded the big bar to buy the brits. Seems counter Intuitive to go back to square one, unless there's a big financial incentive.

I'd keep the coins and make your next target the bar.

I agree with @James32 he knows how to store gold as he has about 92380923 metric tonnes of the stuff.

However that said if you have been storing your brits in a tumble dryer turned on and theyve got loads of scratches and dings then melt them down.

DM me for more investment  tips - 1 sov per tip or maybe I can sell you some natural gas in 1 jam jar.....

I'd have to concur. Although never owned a gold bar, I have several silver bars of varying sizes and some custom BYB rounds. As nice as they are, the CGT is the downside. Those pieces are almost never sell pieces. It's better to keep the Brits/Sovs due to the CGT exemption.

Also wen moon, it'll be hard enough trading the 1oz Brits

Maybe think about buying a 1 oz Britannia gold bar, or the forthcoming 1 oz Coronation bar.  Sell a Brit or two if you need to.  But otherwise, I'd also say keep the coins.

Intriguing…1 oz Coronation Bar..??

@Bogart what's your thoughts on this ?

I think anything above a 100g Bar is going to struggle on here, but then again it's a nice tidy lump you can carry away with you.

Suppose you get the bar and then start collecting the Brits again, i don't think there is much harm in that.

Hey buddy. I think I may just go smaller bars..100 gram cast Metalor bars seem a good bet with liquidation.

Why would you... think of liquidity for the future...

entirely up to you though but you did ask

Me personally?

Reading the title I thought you were physically going to melt down coins into bars. I'm disappointed now 😔

😂 I wish I had the expertise and the resources too 😂

I'd keep the coins.

You say children, the coins are easily divisible, the bar not so.

Still, a nice place to be 😊

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

Having a bit of personal experience in the large bar thing.

I would keep the brits liquidation of large bars is an absolute nightmare you very rarely get offered spot and the whole post thing is not worth the hassle

If you ever needed to sell the bar folk would be very wary…wanting it drilled and samples sent for checking, asking you where you got it, is it stolen gold and melted all sorts of headaches.

If you ever needed to sell Britannia’s….here there’s your money.

I would do it, even is not a wise decision.

It is your gold, you enjoyed until now to have it in coins shape and get bored. You want now to feel in hand how is a half of kilo of pure gold. I totally understand your point of view and your itch.

Just do it, without fear of CGT.

You can anytime change again the shape of your bar in few pure gold bracelets or chains for your children.

You worked hard for your gold, you deserve to do what you want to do!

Enjoy your bar, mate!😘
