Looking to buy some gold

To these dealers £20k isn't such a big order so unlikely to see much discount.
You will need to choose between boring ( but generally cheaper ) Krugerrands vs more exotic coins that might get you a few quid benefit selling privately, but most dealers don't care too much about the origin of the coin just its weight and purity, so 24ct tends to gain a little over 22ct. You might be subjected to the money laundering third degree placing an order over £10k with some dealers though.
As others have said it might be smart to stage your purchases over several months to see if gold dips a bit.
I too keep waiting for gold to return to £1,000 per ounce but will this ever happen - I fear it will not but maybe £1300 - that would be nice if buying less so if selling.

Well I'm still waiting for sovereigns to go back down to £3,500 per thousand!

Incredible!! What's the coin on the top left please? It looks a lil bigger than the other coins

2013 Brit it’s quite a bit bigger but thinner but that’s all I know. Mines has a few red dots now, first time I’ve noticed them. Someone must know more on the forum, did they only do that version for 1 year?

Have you got a link to this, I’m interested to see now and have yet to buy from tavex.

I had a really good service from Tavex UK on new 2022 sovs. Their payment system is currently being rebuilt or updated. The current one worked fine with one of my banks but not with another for some reason. It was discussed in another thread somewhere. The prices they had for 2022 sovs was lower than I could find best value sovs from other dealers.

It's what it looks like, a 2013 gold Britannia:

It was a 38.xx mm diameter in 2013 compared to 32.xx mm they use now.

I think 2013 was the first year of 999.9 for the Britannia

Britannias up until and including 2013 where .958 gold ( compared to .999 today ) hence being bigger and heavier, as they still contain 1oz of pure gold.

The red dots are copper spots and nothing to worry about other that a comestic flaw, can be removed in most instances but wouldn't advise trying yourself, @GoldDiggerDave has had some recent great results.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

I love the old Britannias and krugs.   You just feel like you have more gold.  And you can handle them like a bullion sov..

back to the topic, I’d buy 2022 sovs and doubles.  That my next purchase.   Just waiting for that 20 per cent drop in,gold for a week

Thats fair enough. If you can get any dealer to ensure that all the coins will be in perfect condition then please let me know which ones!

If you are referring to secondary market bullion coins, they are unlikely to be in perfect condition.

If they were perfect they would probably not be sold at bullion prices, but as graded or slabbed coins at higher prices.

Even if you are talking about new bullion coins, direct from the Royal Mint, they are unlikely to be perfect.

Even buying new proof coins direct from the Mint does not guarantee perfection, as many / most TSF members could probably tell you, or search TSF for "royal mint quality control".

Gold Britannias were .917 (22ct) up to 2013. From, and including, 2013 they are 999 (24ct).

Silver Brits were .958 up to 2013, then .999 after 👍

So, what were their premiums as percentages, the only real way to make comparisons, which also works across all sizes and weights of coins and bars, "You should aim to buy at the lowest percentage premium within reason.", as mentioned here:

You could include a link to their product, to make it easy for everyone to find.

That's good, but not the same as percentage premium on selling price, which is almost the only thing buyers need to know to be able to compare.

I'd buy british gold (sovereign or gold britannia essentially) at the lowest premium to spot. Would hunt around on the forum buying here and there or dealers when they have good deals. It's surprising how quickly you can spend £20k.

More fun than just ordering 20k in one go as well

Exactly my point Lawrence. The person was mentioning not wanting to use a dealer as previously bullion coins had marks on them.

'The person' was pointing out they sent a Machin head when someone had ordered a Gillick, and that a coin had been received marked (a large permanent pen mark on the coin) and that when tagged the dealer did not respond - not really the same thing at all!

And I stated I would be influenced by more than price not that I would not want to use them, I have bought 2022's off them myself and posted it in 'Today I received' and it was me that posted their link in 'See a deal post it here'

Listen mate I don’t care who you purchase from just thought I would be helpful and research some prices for you.

you never mentioned a pen mark and if you did I missed it. From what I know you mentioned coins not being in great condition.

I didn’t refer to you by name as I felt it rude.

do what you want I wish I hadn’t bothered.

If you are so clued up on dealers just but your gold instead of telling the world you have 20k to spend.

will reconsider spending my time trying to provide information in future.

hitting the ignore button for the first time I think and will consider spending my time trying to provide information in future.

Think your getting confused matey, I don't have £20k to spend, this is not my post

I urged caution and suggested price is not the only deciding factor when spending that amount of money and gave a reason why.

Ha!

In that case he should buy them from a jeweller, because they will polish all the marks off!
