Proof half sovereigns are under-rated in my opinion. Some of the mintages are way lower than the proof sovereigns. Great collection!

Numismatic market much smaller in UK than USA therefore can get quite a large spread in prices. I think you did well getting £800 - researching through past auctions I would have expected around £650. But lets be honest - the auction house did the best collecting 26% fee for someting they don't own! Great business.

Why are the first two 1 oz gold proofs - Henry VII and James I still available at Royal Mint? Thought they would have been snapped up. Lovely series. Need deep pockets.

I buy numisamtic/graded only if I really like to own it myself and never want to sell. Also if it's PCGS it will usually be worth more than NGC. -
Did you use Fedex or UPS for international? Never had a problem if you use them. With royal mail had a coin stuck in customs for 6 weeks once shipping to USA.

Planning to meet at 3pm in the bar area of the hotel. Those who want to stay on can make their way to the nearest pub afterwards..... It's called 'Junction Bar' in the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, Ground Floor. -
I'd buy british gold (sovereign or gold britannia essentially) at the lowest premium to spot. Would hunt around on the forum buying here and there or dealers when they have good deals. It's surprising how quickly you can spend £20k.

VAT free at about 20% over spot 🤣 . I remember there was some discussion a while back about adding VAT to gold in the UK. Thank goodness it never happened.

Fully get you. Then they get a bit upset when they're not involved. I usually announce the news of a fun alone/boys trip a couple of days before. Seems to work better that way.
