That is a very nice looking coin, hopefully they will replace it with a mint state one no hassle.

What is a 'Business Strike' finish? I have never seen this term before.

business strike is american term for bullion or currency coinage, as distinct from proof or collecting version.

Just received the 2016 1/4 ounce gold Standing Liberty Quarter.  I am very disappointed with the coin has it has two dents on the rims so I will be sending it back.  Poor Quality control - reminds me of the royal mint. :P

could be classed as bag marks, perfectly acceptable on bullion:D

Fancy term for not proof finish but better than bullion. Similar to how the Royal Mint uses "Brilliant Uncirculated".

I'm sure I've seen the term being used for common circulating coinage eg morgan dollars etc

1854 Shield Sovereign came back XF Details because the Obverse is scratched.

1845s, 1865, 1866 Shields came back AU58 was hoping they would get MS.

I will be sorting out another batch of coins this weekend to go off to NGC

AU58 is ok for shields, just about EF so not too shabby. Would be interested to see them.

Business strike is misleading on these. They are minted with specially prepared burnished planchets and hand placed on the press before being struck at 68 tons of pressure. Not at all like bullion

Nice shield. Thought I'd test myself and looked at the photos from the bottom up and guessed the grade. Nailed it at 61:)

Thought the reverse is better but let down by the obverse but nice to know there's some consistency.

Yes I thought the grade was fair on that one. If the obverse had a few less bag marks it would have been great but MS61 is good. My 1884-M got au58 which I was also pleased with.
