Hi, thank you for tag, @HerefordBullyun.
Unfortunately, your cellar salts are cupro-nickel, not silver.
Are made in USSR before 1969 by a soviet company named Yummet. The number 5 written before the company's name is showing the number of "artel" from which company belongs. Probably, 5 was allocated for artisanal metal craftworks, I don't know for sure.
An "artel" can be described according Wikipedia as "a small workshop, ostensibly co-operative, but actually under government control."
These artels been disolved from 1969 and replaced by another type of cooperative organisations, with more control from communist authorities.
About the what is written on the bottom, it is easy: the prices.
One of them was 8 roubles and 00 kopecks, the second was cheaper: only 4 roubles and 00 kopecks.
i will attach another one for 4 roubles and 50 kopecks, downloaded from Etsy.
    I hope this helps.
    Kindest regards,
    Stefan.

i am referring to a 2004 clipping from the FT that Mario has referred to on several occasions. He says he cut the article out. Perhaps not the article you are referring to. He is selling mugs with this on the side of them.

If i saw a coin i was very highly suspicious was fake i would say - i would post that. That might cause a ruckus but i would post.
There is a forum rule that members do not make comments on other members' selling threads. As i remember the rule appeared when some members were for example critical about the selling price posted. @ChrisSilver rightly ruled that the price was up to the seller and if you thought it is too much you just pass that coin over. However a 'very highly suspect' fake is something else. What if some of our forum experts were to see a coin they were very highly suspicious of? Is it not a forum duty to say something? Granted you reported your suspicions and i do not know all the details of this case but i for one would want to know if a reputable member such as yourself was very highly suspicious.

Yes indeed but being a nit picker playing with the words i will say the article doesn't say some dated back or the oldest dated back to the nineteenth century  - it said a total of 15 sovereigns dated back to the nineteenth century. i will say the article at least strongly implies all of them dated back that far.
"a total of 15 gold sovereign pieces likely dating back to the nineteenth century"
The get out is the use of the word 'likely' - this is not an absolute - it is a probability and leaves it open that potentially none of them dated back that far.
Possibly Lawrence had misplaced his eye piece that day or he was otherwise engaged on the big wheel and a trainee saw the coins. We could write a book about the day Ollie the dog found the coins.

"To his owner's delight and utter disbelief, Ollie instinctively dug up a total of 15 gold sovereign pieces likely dating back to the nineteenth century"
Fake News - the gold coin i can clearly see the obverse side of is a newish Elizabeth head.

He does say "I am not a charity but I help charities ie Alzhiemers, Dementia, Mesothelioma UK, Asbestos Cancer, Royal British Legion, NSPCC,"
Using the word charity so the casual visitor will think the ebay account is that of a charity - it also makes people think coins will be genuine.

In general i would say steer clear of gold bars. There are too many fakes. Knocking out a look alike plated bar with packing that matches up is not so hard for those who do that sort of thing and the profits are very good. Even if you buy from a reputable dealer and you know it is 100% when you come to sell the bar, there will always be that doubt in buyers' minds. i know i am not the only person who thinks like this.
Get the Britannia - but having said that get some sovereigns. A smaller coin - smaller price per coin - easy to sell - the sovereign is the coin of choice in the UK and there is no CGT to worry about.

@Bogart i would privately message @Midasfrog if you are interested in these sovereigns - you won't be able to access that page yet. Young head Victorian sovs are something of a VIP sovereign these days - so defo a better buy than a run of the mill.
