    Have I got this right?

Just checking some mintage numbers and the above and it says 10,000 each year (plus a few for sets) and that they were all proof.

    Whereas 1979 is 9 million+.

    Quite a difference there🤣

Back in 1995 we bought a property, it had been built in the 70’s on a piece of virgin land, there was a covenant in the deeds which  stated that we had to pay 30 bushels of grain and 8 nobles annually to a Benedictine Abbey in Marlow some 35 miles away.

There had been a small hermitage on the land which was dissolved under Henry VIII.

The covenant dated back to the 14th century. The abbey was dissolved centuries ago, but the covenant remained.

I know this has nothing to do with your coin, but it was a living currency and we have always wondered what they are like to see in reality.

The abbey is probably online now and expecting BTC payment. Best to get it sorted - you don’t mess around with monks.

I went to it when it was in London back in 2011. It was an eye-opener. The coins were cool, as were the banknotes. The eerie thing for me though was a recovered section of Titanic hull they had hung on the wall, as my visit coincided with the 99th anniversary of it striking the iceberg, it was quite something.

I've long had a deep fascination with the Titanic - so whenever 1912 coins come around I always think about it. My very first gold coin was a VF 1912 half sovereign. Long gone now sadly. But as I now have a few sovereign cases, I might pick up a 1912 sovereign and keep it in one. Then when I get dressed up with pocket watch etc. I can have it as a pocket piece, in its case.

    Maybe I need a 1912 watch, 1912 chain, 1912 holder and 1912 sovereign. That'd make my day.

With regards to the original poster's sovereign. I noticed the edge wear on the rim as well, maybe this is from being slid in and out of sovereign cases. Just a thought.

Sorry to take this thread off at a tangent but in February I went to the Titanic exhibition in Vegas. It was really good and they have some of the sovereigns that were recovered from the seabed:

I live in Perth and have bought a lot of Perth mint coins. Have only ever had one problem with a coin otherwise the quality of their coins (proof and bullion) is excellent. I would really like to be able to do a comparison between the quality control of the UK Royal Mint and Perth Mint.

    I’m not sure we’re ready for that…
