First image appears to be a fake. Fonts are wrong - flat tops to the D & C + plus inconsistent wear. Looks like a few deliberate dints in the neck area to age it, in an otherwise clean image. However image three is genuine IMO. Just examined 15 shield-backs to get a sense of normality. There are 5 varieties of the 1845 mostly R+ Unfortunately I don't have any of them!

I agree. Pics 1&3 are different coins. First one looks dodgy. Check the date numerals.

With respect, this is your opinion.  It is worth more to those who collect these SOTDs.  As I have said many times now, look at the prices of the 2017 SOTD (with a higher mintage).  They regularly sell for over £1100 in MS70 condition.  A £675 investment to nearly double your money looks pretty good to me.

Also, they are not regular bullion sovereigns.  These have a matte finish and have a plain edge.  Nothing like the bullion versions.

He’s talking about the set, not the SOTD

    welcome @dioarn

there's plenty of useful info to answer most of your questions on the start of this thread

    best of luck today magpie79

I believe @dioarnis referring to the set containing the bullion 2002, 2012 and 2022 sovereigns for £1800.

I would suggest £1800 is a lot for three bullion sovereigns, special reverse or not.

  4. I have bought and sold with them on several occasions. They are polite, friendly and perfectly legitimate.

Where The Coin Cabinet exude ruthless European efficiency, COTR are quintessentially British…

I asked Louise about the credit card charges too, and they believe they are entitled to charge a fee to cover their costs.

Personally, I don’t believe that’s correct but that’s their stance.

Just read the terms and conditions by buying this coin you are signing up to a subscription to receive other coins. Falling to pay the invoices for future coins will result in charges. You'd be in debt to them after a few months. What a scam

Yeh, but it’s a rare coin so swings and roundabouts 😉

Just a quick follow up on this subject. I sent a package off to NGC UK last week, my first and they received it last Wednesday. Checked on the submission page and nothing is showing. (RMSD says package received)

Any idea from anyone out there what the time frame is before something shows on the system. I know the chances of the package not being delivered and signed for by someone else are slim but you never know and the old paranoia starts to kick in. Would it be anything to do with the fact that NGC only updates on  Tuesday?

I did also send them a email saying a package was on the way with the SD number. Didn't get a reply to that so I'm assuming if there was a problem they would have emailed back saying they didn't receive the package.

As I say any help on the next stages after posting would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

That’s perfectly normal. They will have a backlog of packages to open and register.

The status will, at some point, show ‘received’ and then onwards from there.

Thanks Steve, I’m sending a few pre 1932 Sovereigns, mostly rare George V sovereigns.

Perhaps PCGS would be the better option, do you think?

I’m not aware of any ‘middle man’ service with PCGS or is it possible to send directly?

It will definitely be cheaper, more interesting and calmer to register an account and DIY.

I didn't speak to them originally..I was not in a position to answer my phone, which showed up as Jubilee Mint on the caller i.d. I just redialed when I was free because I wanted to know where they got my number from.

As far as there prices, it's worse. £795 for Edward VIi sovs too. Bullion 2021 for over £500. 😮

Yeh but it comes in a nice case.

    That’s great, thank you!

Might be interesting working out what to list though, as it’s not like I have all one year etc...🤔

Do you know if it’s possible to list the interest in swapping - and what I’d like to have, then work out the finer details with any interested parties? For example, I wouldn’t know how many Britannia’s it would take to exchange for a half sovereign... but I guess that’s down to the person with the gold coin to decide...?

    Cheers,
    Bob

I think you need to think about how many Brits you are willing to offer and then see if anyone is up for it. Then finalise the deal in PMs with any interested parties.

    Hi all,

Been a forum member for a little while now, and have some silver Britannias (& thanks to the forum members who have helped with that 😁👍) ... however, the shiny yellow stuff has been calling 😏

Have accumulated my silver in small amounts, as it’s intended to be a way of saving some cash without the temptation to spend it, but gold has always been out of reach taking in to account that method of building my savings.

So the thought occurred that I might be able to trade some of my silver for gold - we’re only taking a half sovereign or a 1/10th Brit or similar - and I wondered if that was a ‘thing’ on the forum? 🤔

Didn’t  want to do an official post in the Buying section until I had worked out if it was feasible.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bob

Yes it’s perfectly feasible. There is an option to list it as an ‘exchange’. Just be clear what the terms are and see if there’s any takers. Good luck
