Narrowly missed out on an item on ebay and messaged the seller to see if he had another but he didn't, so instead he sent me this coin completely free as a consolation absolutely stunning and almost flawless 1924 Austria
Schilling first year of issue in .800 silver (before they reduced it the following year). Couldn't believe it when it arrived!
I've since bought a cheap coin off the seller and negotiated to pay an extra £10 for him to put in a few mystery coins in the parcel with it- no clue whats going to be in there or if it's worth £10! I'll post on here what he sent me when it arrives.

While I can't comment on Bairds as I've never used them, I would definitely recommend sovereigns.  While I *think* a sovereign contains a little bit less gold than a quarter ouncer (something like 0.4 grams?) gold sovereigns are super-liquid.  If you ever want/need to sell them then you will not have a difficult time finding a buyer.  Plus sovereigns have greater collector's value, there's numerous different monarchs, different countries' mints, special edition sovereigns,...these coins have been struck since 1817 so in my opinion collecting sovs is much more interesting than quarter-ounce coins.
Talking about the gold price in general, if the global economy sharply rebounded after this crisis and GDP growth rose to pre-Covid levels then that could lead to the price dropping as people take their money out of safe-haven assets - the big one being gold of course,...on the other hand that could also not happen.  Gold goes up in value when people are afraid, be it of defaults, a sharp rose in inflation, global crisis, etc and human beings are not the most rational of creatures.  So my answer to that is; who knows?  I'll leave that to more informed and experienced people than me to comment on.
Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the price.  Sometimes you buy at a price which turns out to be high, sometimes you buy at a price which turns out to be low.  It happens to everyone.  The important thing is getting that gold in your hand and either way it's still under-valued.
And worst case-scenario, if you did buy some gold and the price then dropped, you can just buy more at the lower price.

Just for the sake of easy back of the beer mat not set in stone maths, using random google generic search threads for ball park stats

" 1970s average house price - £4975  At the start of the decade the average house price was £4,975. By the end, that figure had quadrupled to £19,925. "
"In 1970, the average weekly wage was around £32. A loaf of bread cost 9p. A property could be bought in places for £4,975."
    x£32 wage x x52 weeks = £1,664 yr   or £138 a month
So, House was £4975 / £14oz  = would cost you x355oz gold to buy
An annual wage £1,664 / £14oz = would get you x83oz of gold per year pay

Today, "The median annual earnings for full-time employees in the United Kingdom was approximately £30,035 thousand British pounds in 2019. "
As the market stands as of July 2019, the average house price in the UK was 233 thousand British pounds (£233,000). The highest.7 Apr 2020

So annual wage of £30,035 / current £1400oz = x21 oz gold salary
£233,000 house / £1400oz gold = costs you x166oz of gold now to buy

Was gold cheap then and houses expensive? are houses cheap now and gold too expensive? were we better paid in 1970 ? makes you think

I have no financial background. Hence I enjoy reading and educating myself. I must admit that sometimes I am lost and I would enjoy some more explanations as to how people come to an opinion. (Sorry hope my English can be understood)

my gut feeling say we are at the beginning of a huge crisis and gold will blow out. But this is only a gut feeling. I believe in gold being a safe heaven.

I didn't belittle you but wanted to express, I think the crisis is about to come for sure. I tried to say in an understatement, sorry it sound belittling to you. And, no, I won't help the NHS, I would rather have it abolished and replaced with private health care. Then I wouldn't pay for it, get nothing out of it and be asked to work for them for free on top of it and probably it would become more apparent than it is anyway that Corona is a normal seasonal flu. In any case with less government poor people wouldn't be that poor and could afford much better private health care for probably £100 a month.

Im not sure its wise to invest in Gold based upon a Tip price which is based upon a phony CPI especially when the 30 year Bond bubble has popped, but if you insist I would advise you just trade the TIP it makes life so much easier!😉

You can have your opions on gold but through 2020/2021, it’s going up. Not down. I remember clearly the 2008/2009 recession, I think this one will be worse.
Don't get me wrong, I’d rather we were not in these unprecedented times and I fear we won’t be the same nation after this. I’d rather we have a stable economy any day and see little gain in my small gold reserve but recession is coming and an increase in gold is going up.
Regardless, I’ve done what matters most and signed up to be an NHS Volunteer. At a time like this I couldn’t care less about the price of gold.

I think, but I might be wrong that this is a forum for healthy debate and opinions and you feel the need to pick one sentence from my comment and belittle me but I might be wrong.
How sad you feel the need to belittle others. 🤔 But I might be wrong.
You might want to try being nice, I know that might be slightly alien to you but try it sweetie, it might suit you.
Did you know, perhaps not, but silence is also an option. Apparently and ironically silence is golden would you believe.
Now stop belittling others and volunteer for NHS, as have I.
I’ll look forward to that rain in 2020/21, it will make a refreshing change in UK. 😘
