Soemthing different
This silver Hemidrachm of Tabaristan comes from the Kingdom of Tabaristan. This Kingdom was located along the southern shore of the Caspian Sea, which is currently Northern Iran. The 7,000 miles long Silk Road linked Constantinople with the heart of China. This route was used by merchants to transport luxury goods, precious metals, art objects, and ideas between China, the West and Middle East. The Silk Road ran directly through the Kingdom of Tabaristan and many of these Hemidrachm were used in trade all along the road.
Tarbaristan at the time was under Muslim occupation, however the coin continued to be modeled after coins from the preceding Sassanian Empire. The obverse shows a right facing bust wearing a winged crown in the style of the Sassanian King Khusru II. The reverse depicts attendants flanking a Sassanian style fire altar, with a border of three concentric circles.
The Silk Road Hoard includes coins minted in Tabaristan and may have been struck under the rule of Haroun al-Rashid, AD 786-809. Al-Rashid’s name is mentioned in several stories from the collection of tales commonly referred to as Tales of the Arabian Nights. This example is graded Mint State by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).

1/4 Gold QB set arrived! Few hairs. Would have liked to see an 11 coin set with a centre completer surrounded by the 10 QB.
Both my sliver sets have been delayed, so hoping they will send them soon.

MickB reacted to ChrisSilver in New Ranking system since last software upgrade yesterday
You may have noticed the new ranking system which replaced the old when the software was updated yesterday to the latest version.
This ranking system is designed to help encourage new members to engage on the forum and to increase overall topics and posts. Members are awarded points for interacting on the forum in various ways, posts, topics, reacting to posts etc. There is also a badge system with various badges for different achievements.
We can look at improving the system and adding additional badges in the future, such as one for members who have listed X amount of trade topics on the forum, and for member's who have been here a long time, e.g. 3 or 5 years+.
To clarify the system is simply based on interactions on the forum, such as posts and topics, and doesn't correspond to a user's knowledge about precious metals or accuracies of their posts.

MickB reacted to dicker in Owning Nazi gold and silver
I was working for a German investment bank in 1998 / 1999 when they 'fessed up to finding large number of gold bars that were Nazi in origin. I cant remember if it was EUR60M or EUR200M in value but it was a lot for the bank to have 'found' after all those years.
The same bank regularly published 'from the archive', but curiously the archives from 1939 - 1945 were never explored or published.
I attach an article from the Bank of England internal magazine from 1997. Worth a read.

MickB reacted to sixgun in Owning Nazi gold and silver
There was a thread about this topic maybe a couple of years ago. Some people get hot under the collar. Personally i have something of a morbid curiosity for such things. i am sure i have some.
If you are interested in these coins for whatever reason, i would collect them. Why not? No reason at all. The more some people get hot under the collar the more i would collect them.

Massive shout out to @Clockpuncher for this one. The 1997 1/4oz gold Britannia. That now concludes my collection of the 5 Philip Nathan Britannia designs. Was inspired by a comment by @Roy a while back to collect these. Lovely crenellated border design which brings them together as a collection
