MickB reacted to Roy in Free Gold - How to Find Your Own in the UK
Considering the damage the 4x4 boys, the rally teams, the enduro riders and the New Age travellers cause in the forests, I'd say this gold panner has made very little impact to the natural habitat.

Today I paid £40.96 for this 2022 sovereign from Costco. Well, if you ignore the food purchases but include the 2% cashback rewards that I built up over the last year that went towards it, this makes it the cheapest sovereign I've ever bought. 😄

Picked up a handful of these little beauties as some gifts for a couple of milestone birthdays my friends have coming up (my photography skills are a little lacking today). The strike is definitely sharper in real life.

Jubilee Head Coinage (1887-1892/93 Failure to please?
'Grandma' Victoria was 68 years old when the Jubilee image finally replaced the 'Young-head' of an 18year old girl. Joseph Edgar Boehm, an Austrian engraver, was given the task. Queen Victoria's favourite small diamond crown sat on top of her widows cap with veil attached. It was lightweight and only 4 inches in diameter, and far more practical than the heavier regnal crown. However, bombarded by criticism that the small crown looked a bit silly, she seemed to change her mind, and the Obverse was duly replaced in 1893 by Thomas Brocks 'Old Head'. So the Jubilee coinage only lasted a very short time (6/7yrs). Again a veil was incorporated into the 'Old Head' and thus mourning carried on for 40 years!
Although Prince Albert and Queen Victoria were both born in 1819 she was 3 months older, making Albert her 'Toy boy' ! He died in 1861, age 42, but not before he had enhanced his reputation as being the 'Stud of Osborne House' getting Vicky 'preggers' 9 times! Back to the 'Jubilee head' - The small diamond crown now resides on show with the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.....

For something different here is a 1900 Morgan dollar in an NPG(?) holder. Have never heard of NPG.
The coin looks fine in hand, although it may have been dipped, but certainly not the Ms66 as per the holder. I intend to crack out the coin and send it into PCGS to see what they make of it.

A recently acquired 1916 Perth Mint Sovereign. Generally problem free and in my opinion, a nice example.
The photos aren’t the best having been taken in fading daylight.
I’ve noticed that 1916 sovereigns are a date that are rarely discussed on the forum and seldom comes up for sale. The 1916 Perth Mint sovereign is rated as scarce by Marsh, despite a healthy mintage of over 4 million, many have no doubt met the melting pot.
FullSizeRender.MOV Notable events of 1916 were:
January 1st 1916 - The British Royal Army Medical Corps carries out the first successful blood transfusion, using blood that had been stored and cooled.
April 1916 - The toggle light switch is invented by William J. Newton and Morris Goldberg.
April 24th-30th 1916 – The Easter Rising occurs in Ireland. Members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood proclaim an Irish Republic, and the Irish Volunteers and Irish Citizen Army occupy the General Post Office and other buildings in Dublin, before surrendering to the British Army.
July 1st- November 18th 1916 – WWI: Battle of the Somme, opening with explosion of the British Y Sap and Lochnagar mines and the Battle of Albert: More than one million soldiers die, with 57,470 British Empire casualties on the first day, 19,240 of them killed, the British Army's bloodiest day.
July 1st-12th 1916 – Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916: At least one shark attacks 5 swimmers along 80 miles (130 km) of New Jersey coastline, resulting in 4 deaths and the survival of one youth. This event is the inspiration for author Peter Benchley, over half a century later, to write Jaws.
August 27th 1916 – WWI: The Kingdom of Romania declares war on the Central Powers, entering the war on the side of the Allies.
August 28th 1916 - WWI:
Germany declares war on Romania.
Italy declares war on Germany.
September 11th 1916 – A mechanical failure causes the central span of the Quebec Bridge, a cantilever-type structure, to crash into the Saint Lawrence River for the second time, killing 13 workers.
September 13th 1916 – Mary, a circus elephant, is hanged in the town of Erwin, Tennessee, USA for killing her handler, Walter "Red" Eldridge.
November 21st 1916 - WWI: Hospital ship HMHS Britannic, designed as the third Olympic-classocean liner for White Star Line, sinks in the Kea Channel of the Aegean Sea after hitting a mine; 30 lives are lost. At 48,158 gross register tons, she is the largest ship lost during the war. The sister ship of Olympic and Titanic.
December 18th 1916 - WWI: The Battle of Verdunends in France with German troops defeated.
December 31st 1916 – The Hampton Terrace Hotelin North Augusta, South Carolina, one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in the United States at the time, burns to the ground.
(Above information of dates taken from Wikipedia, some details might not be 100% accurate)
However it gives an idea of what was going on at the time. Try it next time you buy a historical coin, you might be surprised what you learn.
Then sometime in all of the turmoil of 1916, this sovereign was minted.

I saw the following Half Sov listed on eBay as “Rare”. It is obviously not.
I asked the seller why it was rare and got the following reply.
”I’m no expert” - but expert enough to judge it to be rare….
Verdict = Binlord in training
