    Hi,
It seems you are in a similar-ish position to what I was some 30 years ago.  Back then I started making very small and modest investments into the stock market via a Personal Equity Plan, the earlier version of what is now an ISA (individual Savings Account).
I just kept plugging away at that as my finances permitted and have done OK.
I have only recently started to get into gold to divesify away from the stock market.
My advice to anyone starting out is make sure you have 3 to 6 months of cash saved in case of emergencies (for the garden fence, new boiler, roof problem, etc.) then start off investing slowly but surely in what you can when you can.  Don't go all in on anything and diverify.  @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer has some good advice about buying PM's at a low premium as an investment.  The 'monevator' website is a good source on investing, especially low cost tracker funds.
Think long term and don't worry about price volatility in the short term, whatever you invest in.  Best of luck.  🐢🍀

While I am often critical of LMO and their parent company Samlerhuset, the advert you posted is almost good value from them, and at least they are offering genuine coins (we presume).
I class the scammers on ebay as far worse, but I also accuse ebay of being worse, as not only do they host thousands of misleading listing daily, but they do so in the full knowledge of most that is happening on their site, as partly evidence by the slow response to about 20 reports on the 1841 sovereign listing by TSF members. I have reported many listing in the past, but it would probably need to have a vast army of volunteers checking and reporting daily, and even then, I doubt it would change ebay's policies. It would probably require considerable media adverse publicity to get any change.
Earlier today, we were discussing LMO, and looked at an information page I posted way back in 2006:
    https://24carat.co.uk/frame.php?url=londonmintoffice.html
At the time, our page was probably more successful in one respect than we had hoped. If you Googled "London Mint Office" our page showed as the first result.
Unfortunately, we had not counted on the extent of the stupidity of their customers. For several weeks our phone lines were flooded with torrents of abusive tirades from people along the lines of "I've already spent hours on the phone to you trying to get you to stop sending coins to me that I have not ordered. Unless it stops, I am going to report you to Trading Standards, the police, the newspapers..." etc.
When we manage to get a word in during a pause for breath, we would typically try to explain that they had phoned Chard, not the London Mint Office, or sometimes we would ask if they knew who they had phoned. This was inevitably followed by a further tirade of abuse. It seems none of them bothered to read the page we had provided. They Googled London Mint Office, saw our page and phoned us. We tried to help them on the phone, but they would not listen.
Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot!
On a more positive note, some people posted coins to us that they had received from London Mint Office, which I think we threw into a box until anyone enquired about it, which I don't think anyone did.
I have issued similar warnings about ebay on numerous occasions, but have come to the conclusion that it is probably a waste of time and effort. There are some people who it's almost impossible to help.

I agree with you..despite the negative feedback that comes across on this site from others..but that's just human nature..there are always going to be people who disagree with our comments on such things albeit not deserved..cest la vie..I personally ignore these people as they ,not all.... just a few who want to be negative and sometimes abusive...very easy to hide behind a phone screen and give abuse...but just ignore them as we all do....would love a personal one on one with some of these to determine how brave they are face to face..but that won't happen as these negative comments they dish out is their thing...and we are all entitled to our opinions...but would just like to see and speak to these negative self opionated jerks.. who give it the big un on here,on a one to one....

Buy the gold that is popular in your country.  So for UK, that would be Sovereigns and Brittanias.   My personal recommendation would be Brittanias, you can’t go wrong with 9999 purity.
Another coin to consider: 1oz gold maple leaf.  9999 fine and has multiple security features.

    I would also recommend sovereigns.
If I was looking to buy a 1oz gold coin now it would definitely be the Queen’s Beasts Completer.
But Sovereigns are good for all the reasons mentioned above.

    sovereigns = unfortunately
don't get me wrong, i DO love them, for all the obvious reasons
i just wish ALL gold carried the SAME premium
so i didn't have to have the vanilla option my head keeps telling my heart to buy

Sovereigns - low premium buying and typically higher sale values (low spread)

Personally I would go Sovereigns - portable, easily disposed of, easy to source and if you enjoy the numismatic as well as the stacking element of PM's
Sovs always priced not too far way from the spot price.
    Best

My piles have piles now, my GP has said they now count as a separate patient and appointments have to be made separately
By the way mate, I've been clearing some very old family stuff out the house and have found a few 'interesting items'. Keep an eye out for my threads if you want to lay your hands on e.g. some vintage peak Floyd era prophylactics etc

i also bought a few sovereigns which I’ll now likely stack mainly but I will buy 1oz gold coins as I do like them acquired a Britannia and a buffalo up to now lovely coins.

Really nice humble opinions on this thread which are a joy to read. Genuinely nice to see.
I think the earlier Brits are very attractive, and quite different from the most recent Brits.
At the end of the day they are Bullion so take your pick.

You're talking stacking gold I presume so the difference in the alloy shouldn't matter. Assuming the old brit designs mirror the 1oz silver ones, I would go for the older ones to add a bit of interest.

I've seen a lot of bullion Brits and never come across a pre 9999 one! There is no reason for me to buy one in the future given the choice, in fact I'd try and avoid them. For stacking I would just go for 'best value' or 'pre-owned' or whatever from whichever top tier UK dealer is cheapest at the time. The security features are meaningless to me, just a gimmick. I test all bullion the same way whatever it is.

My stack is currently 7 sovs and a 1/4 gold Britannia so dont have much , but I know what you mean, the newer ones are kinda boring. But i know from the years I have been doing this that when it comes to liquidating part of the stack bullion is so much easier than anything with a premium - So I think low premiums is the way i need to go.
That said even though krugs are about the cheapest thing going I am not interested in them at all.
Will certainly sleep on it. Thanks:)

I look for the bargains in the supermarkets.
If favourite shampoo, shower gel, breakfast cereal is on offer that gives excellent returns.
For example my cereal on offer at £2.00 rather than regular price of £3.50 - buy 10 boxes and that gets me £35 worth for £20 a return on investment of 75% !!!!
[ in case of argument the maths used are - invest £20 to acquire assets worth £35. Gain is £15 over £20 hence 75% ]
Works with many items that are regularly used and zero risk.

After being able to buy just a couple of quarter ounces since the start of the year, I've finally put my hands on the 1oz 2021 Gold Britannia. I must say... on the bigger full ounce, the new design looks even more stunning.

I agree. I was fortunate to get into the silver game a couple of years ago and had enough time to amass a reasonable stack before Brexit and the 'silver squeeze' of last year. IMO Gold is far more a better buy for anyone in the UK.
In regards to selling, for me I will be hodling for a while yet unless some unforeseen happens. I guess if spot hits $100+ I will start to consider slowly liquidating the stack!

Living in the UK i just cant justify silver, the premiums are eye watering and unless you are willing to spend time hunting down and storing old sterling flatware I just cant see the value in it.

I am a relatively new gold stacker.  I think the premium on silver is just too high for it to be sensible investment for me.
Though if you did buy when prices were cheaper, I can see your logic in holding what you already have.
That is not to say that I would never buy silver, but it would be a something I really liked and no thing else.
