Your Best Worst Coin - For Those Who Like 'em Rough

So we often show our nice shiny coins how about something different.

Maybe a stunning shield with horrendous damage to the portrait?

Perhaps a proof that arrived looking like it got kicked down the road all the way from the mint itself?

I'll start us gently with this crown

For me the reverse is an iconic image - first time the much improved revised G&D appeared on Silver crown coinage 1818-1820

1821 was the defining year when the Silver Crown and the GIV Sovereign appeared, and without the garter!…..Good Stuff.

Pity about the obverse.

Did the coin used to be a brooch, or something similar?

I imagine it was mounted somehow yes. I received it like this in some scrap a while ago.

Like this I guess ..

It was the result of one of my first 'relationship issues' with silver.

I hated the stuff. Handled it, tossed it around, left it on the windowsill for days and then, the final coup de grace, I gave it to the kids to play with.

Once rescued from the garden, I advertised them @ £10 a pop. They sold 😊

Great topic.  Until I started stacking pms most of the coins I ever owned from when I was a kid were in a state, either worn out, scratched or beat up to such an extent as to be worthless.

So here's my contribution to the thread,  I picked it up in India in 1984 from a street stall along the Paharganj which is a sort of dividing line between New and Old Delhi and was the in-place to be for overland travelling backpackers back in the day.  It may even be a fake - I have no way of knowing  ..🤔😅

Took some digging to find it. Nothing spectacular but I picked this up in a coin shop in Lisbon a few years ago. This is more a personal vendetta than a visual one for my worst. The only davinci coins I can find seem to come from Alibaba so I assumed it was fake for a long while until I decided to test it out. Seems real (weight, magnet, gravity) but doesn't seem to have any info. If it is fake, why would you fake something that doesn't appear to exist and if it is real why is it not on the internet? Years ago I thought I see it as part of a set but can't remember why I didn't follow it up. Anyhow it's just in the junk pile.

Yeah I know, had been round the houses with it. Every other coin I own, I can find, gave up in the end because it's not like I can sell it if it doesn't come up on Google. I will plan another trip to Lisbon and "gently" persuade the old boy to buy it back of me. 😁

Cheers Roy, bit embarrassing I couldn't find it. Pity it doesn't show both sides of the coin.

I stopped buying 999 now just mainly stick to alloyed so will just throw it back in the deal with it later pile.

not mine - but spotted this on my ebay travels

Picture 2 of 8

Picture 1 of 8

what to you think it would grade as ?? a good contender for a 70 ??

Going by the amount of teeth marks in it, is there some question as to whether it is genuine or not? 😁

It'd be a great pocket piece.
