Anybody on here bid high enough to win a Matt set ???

Will work out a good investment piece for generations in the future.

As theyve gone direct to folk with biggest wallets can't see really any coming to market

I think you’re right, I would suspect that the majority will be purchased by people overseas with big wallets indeed! 1 or 2 may appear on auction sites after released, but I’m super curious on how many people have bid..?

I would guess £15,000-£20,000

Would have been enough to get you a set

Shame they will only be mega, super valuable when we are sat next to the sunny window in retirement home or dead  :(

Multi generational hand me down, its a good purchase for sure

Jeez, that’s hefty price for 5 coin-set. I understand the low mintage etc.

But I have to agree with you, that it’s a multi-generation asset with a long term view.

So, did you bid for 1 or 2 sets @Paul 😉 hah

Saw someone on FB stating they’d won two sets (£12k and £15k). Angry as they’d bid the 15k after the RM email prompt to increase bids and had only wanted one set but appear to have won both. Lot of money!

I’m sorry but this is a bit hilarious.

To make it worse, RM have said only 1 per household so have cancelled the £12K item and billed for the £15k win instead

I saw that post on FB.

Honestly, I didn’t think anyone would seriously take the bait and up their bid, at least not at that level of money.

I’m no expert, but if the T&Cs state that the final bid is binding, then the person will have to pay the 15k.

Did anyone bid on these?

I heard the auction has been a PR disaster for the Mint, someone sent out an email to all bidders disclosing who was winning and who wasn't, then encouraging bidders to increase their bids.

That is not only against the principle of a silent auction its also against their own terms and conditions :

5.5 Each entry shall be final and binding once Bidders click the submit button.

5.6 Bidders acknowledge and accept that each bid submitted in the Auction is irrevocable and cannot be amended or corrected, even if submitted in error and/or notified to The Royal Mint.

Someone is for the high jump, and no idea what RM will now do with this auction?

Interesting… it says each entry is final and binding… leaves room for interpretation that the final entry is the bid they will consider.

In theory then, someone could reduce their bid by making a subsequent lower one? 🤪

The plot thickens, one person has won two sets of the Matt and RM are honouring their bids. Despite their terms of 'one per household" so another of their terms and conditions broke

pi55 up and brewery come to mind

Honestly, just boycott them for everything

I have asked my Mint manager for an explaination, and asked them to honour my 'previous winning bid position'.

I'm honestly tempted just to close all dealings with them now.

Very, very little reason to hang around using RM going forward other than utilising the zero % interest free tick file

Honesty ethics quality history trusted brand yadda yadda

They've broke so many

a shower of 💩

That was you then? Or are you in a singular situation with two ‘wins’?

Not me, I had 1 bid that was in a winning position until that email, I didn't increase my bid. I have heard nothing so presume I was then outbid, although I have not heard anything official as yet.

That must sting! To know that you WERE in a winning position and likely would have won. ☹️

Ithought someone else posted it, but here it is line by line :

Thank you for bidding in our silent auction for The Sovereign 2023 Five-Coin Matt Gold Proof Set.

Your bid is currently in line to win a set.

In the interest of fairness, we are emailing you to inform you we have emailed the bidders who are not currently winning to allow them a chance to increase their bid. We are recommending a bid around the Low Estimate.

We are sharing this information with you to allow you to also increase your bid if you wish.

Kind regards,

The Royal Mint Auction Team

You have to wonder what travesty they’ve saved for next week.

They’ve gone big recently with cancelled series, immoral auction practices and extortionate historic ‘sets’.

I’m going with charging interest on outstanding balances for Mint Marque customers.

I see the RM is still dangling the Gold carrot. I haven't bought anything from them for a few years. I think my account has probably lapsed.

Anyone got an update on this?

I see the original page has now gone, now just 'PAGE 404 NOT FOUND'

I also got a very criptic message from my mint manager when I complained about the auction :

I have spoken with the relevant department and due to unforeseeable circumstances, the responses have been delayed.

???
