Royal Mint - Gold Standard 2021 Release today

Recommended Posts

No idea if this will include proof coins or just a new bullion version for 2021 but it looks like 9am sees a new release from the Royal Mint.

Judging on the cover photo it looks like a proof 1 oz gold version maybe?

Big fan of the 1/4 oz gold versions they have had a few times - not sure how I feel about an expensive proof version but if this is bullion in 1 oz gold then.....

It says "Finished to Proof standard and available in one ounce and quarter-ounce editions"

I don't know why the RM don't do these in bullion 1 oz, they would be exceptionally popular!

Not buying the 1 oz proof as nice as it is.

Agreed, it would be very popular in Bu.

The Quarter is far too higher mintage if you factor in the 300 Sets- I don’t think however, the Set will sell many units given the price.

Prior to 9am I went to the BBP website and they were selling the 2020 bullion quarter ounce Gold Standard coin for £388.60.  Therefore I set myself a price limit of £650 for the proof (as it turned out I was bang on).  I also set a mintage limit of 300-400 - however, the mintage for the quarter ounce proof was 500* which I thought was a bit high.  And so, on this basis, I resisted temptation.

* actually the limit for the coin is 910 !

I agree, you are paying £600 for a 1931 sovereign - I know some of the 1931's have some intrinsic value above spot price but that seems quite a lot more.

Ah, I see that- and the limit for the 1oz is 260 so perhaps the other 10 might be offered as 1oz and 1/4oz sets by invitation and the other 100 Quarters sold in a commemorative newspaper edition or another special issue or another.

I guess we’ll have to wait a while for actual mintage numbers.

Or kept back to replace the damaged ones!

The additional 10 will be for the trial of the pyx

Would they make a bullion version for 2021 for the 1/4oz?

I have 2016,18,19,20 in 1/4oz format bullion would be nice to keep it going.

I'm a novice when it comes to proof coins but would be nice to see more frosting on the coins, to me it looks very similar to the bullion versions

I am sure the RM will make a bullion version of the 2021 quarter ounce - do you really think they will miss out on such an opportunity!

It appears that some people out there have deep pockets- the Set is now Limited Stock!

I find the mocked up renders never look very good on the site, in hand always look much better on all their coins.

I went for the 1oz and 1/4 myself.

Looks like there will be a 2021 1oz bullion version coming out as you can search for it on the RM site - or has this been released already and I completely missed it?
