I just don't get why the second chance offer would be £50 cheaper than the auction sale price emoji15.png

Second chance offer goes to the next bidder as far as I was aware, which couldn't be £50 behind the winning bid.

Unless he has more than one with the same grading reference, in which case I'd be pretty concerned.

you can choose who to make the second chance offer to.. Doesn't have to be the next in line .. Only has to be someone who bid at their max offer

you could use multiple accounts to push up the price and then offer to a real bidder at their max bid

Good news it's arrived,

And it looks absolutely fine to me,

One reason why I got him down on his price I bought it off eBay,

It's a risk but looks like it's paid off,

It is 100% fake unfortunately.

It is very different from the NGC photo of the coin that should've in that slab. The details on the panda all very different and the Chinese writing is very different and the bamboo leaves all very different form.

Unfortunately you can tell when you compare the two that the slab you received is a forgery. You will be able to get a PayPal refund for this very easily and in the case of counterfeit goods you do not have to send the original back to the seller.

If you look at my previous post, at the screenshot of the coin on the NGC system, you will be able to see that there is a warning to contact NGC customer service regarding this coin.

So it wasn't a 2nd chance offer?  You bought it outside of eBay?

With a slabbed coin, no 2 coins can have the same certification number so the coin he sold you must have a different number to that sold at auction.  I did mention that the other coins he sold/was selling were fakes.

He originally offered me a second chance,
But then we decided to do it off eBay,
In the stages of trying to get my money back,
Lesson learned Life goes on,
To be honest I didn't realise people were actually making fake
NGC coins,

I had a fake $1 coin passed to me under the same circumstances. Was it by bank transfer? PayPal or best still credit card?

Good luck Mike, I'm sure you are covered.

There are so many fakes out there, I'd only ever buy a panda from a long-term forum member.

Keep on stacking :)

What a nightmare.  The lengths these people go to with the fake slabbing etc is grim.  Hope you get your refund promptly.  Reading this makes me wonder if anyone has ever been scammed in reverse?  Anyone know what happens if you were unfortunate enough to sell one of these real coins to a scammer and they then claim it's not genuine?  I imagine they could claim the refund, keep your coin and when you protest they send you back their fake?  I guess they could only get away with it once and run the risk of an angry visit from you.  Must be a big problem for Ebay to police this type of thing and I just can't see how they manage it tbh.  Just seems too dodgy to use safely for genuine buyers and sellers.

Anyway, best of luck getting your refund.  A good reminder to me to stay away from ebay.  I guess that you should report him to the police or do ebay do that?

New profile pic to support the current thing, because it's current year.

I'm going to report him to eBay,
And once I receive my money
Will probably destroy the coin,
One less of these in circulation is a good thing,

Hold on because I have had a fake in the past and both ebay and paypal wanted me to return the coin before they would look into the refund.

On ebay the seller can print a return postage label which should mean the cost for you posting it should be deducted from their paypal account.  Transactions on just paypal may have something similar.

I hate that people do this, I hope you get your money back.
Good that we have this topic, if you found it out much later then it will be highly unlikely that you could get your money back.
And thanks to numistacker.

I got a few fake silver coins before from buying from people in a foreign language.

From Atkinsons?  I looked at those but decided £189 was a bit too much for the lowest mintage one and the recent ones didn't look in that great a condition to me so I just gave them a miss.  They are far from my favourite coins and much prefer something with a bit of age and history.

I recently mentioned that I don't like buying slabbed coins that much as it can make it harder to spot fakes only for others to post that it isn't a problem with slabbed coins.  As for having to return coins to the seller I guess this makes it less likely you can claim a real coin is fake and keep it for free?
