Royal Mint Queen (band) Coin - 9am

They sold out almost immediately on the 1oz but I guess the mintages are set way way in advance and not as a result of how well another coin might do in the same series. They thought it was specialised and they launched separately so not to cannibalise the sales of the 1oz

That makes sense with the mintages on these most likely set in stone at the same time, I bet the Mint were kicking themselves when they saw how well the 1oz were doing!

But still, a 1oz at many multiples of this and just 500 of the 2ozs  - (?)

Makes absolutely no sense to me. It seems awfully unfair/ill-thought through when, as @Paul has explained, the incredibly passionate collection base for Queen memorabilia alone is so huge. I would have thought, with the gold being out of reach of so many (and today's one not even yet 'existing' on the website even as sold out!) the 1oz and 2oz 'twinset', very possibly with the half too (also strange to me that hasn't sold out as it looks the best presented imho), looks like a very desirable set.

I'm so confused. What happened today? I see 1 Oz silver proof still available?

They released a 2oz thick one with a mintage of (I believe) 500

And a very small mintage gold one sold out before it went on the site or something

It was clear from the original launch of the Queen coins that these other coins would be coming and the mintages were clearly laid out. The morning the original coins launched I went on there and contemplated buying but then I saw this big picture with link displayed (where you'll still find it) underneath the coins that were for sale:

queen.thumb.jpg.27dc7b03bd0cee7ac144354319ef2084.jpg

Clicking on that brought you to a page where the following was clearly laid out:

Available in:

- 2oz Silver Proof – an extremely low mintage of 500.
- 2oz Gold Proof – 53 available, the same number of Top 40 UK Singles achieved by Queen
- Kilo Gold Proof – only 6 available, the same number of UK Number 1 singles achieved by Queen

This info has been available since the original launch and I know I'm not the only one who decided to wait for them as a safer bet since others on the forum here stated they were doing the same. I think its shite that not everyone who registered got the email and that the gold 2oz was never made available on the website but the info has been out there since day one of the original release that these were coming.

I think the 1oz silver is a good coin in its own right, and the 2oz doesn't take that away from it. The gold highlighting look really nice on the coin, would probably look great in hand. And the 1oz should also retain a premium in the secondary market. I wonder where the 2oz will be going price wise. Maybe we'll have a better idea in a few weeks when they get delivered. Probably similar to the silver Una. And even more rare. Many Queen fans, also.

I think the next release might be an Elton John tribute. That would also be massive.

I completely agree and think they got the releases the 'right way' round and that actually the 1oz may actually be 'the one' to have, if you had to choose one, although obviously the 2oz is the key to the (present) set.

They have stuffed up the mintage on the 2oz imvho (but not in a bad way if you managed to get one and the QC - ever the problem with RM alas - passes).

I think @Paul's brought some very important knowledge to this thread, and that's how dedicated Queen collectors are. They are still absolutely massive in Japan,  just for example, in a way I am only slowly beginning to 'get' now I no longer live there but have looked more into the band. The golds (however big) will have a number of 'money no object' buyers there imo, your 'average Joe' may still go pretty high for a silver to crown their collection.

Is this the last coin, or is this fantasy?
Caught in a Mint 'queue', can't escape web reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see
May be a poor strike, we'll get no sympathy

Mintage 'easy come, easy go'
Far too high, far too low
So nevermind the mintage
Doesn't really matter to me, to me

The Mint, just $%^&ed up release
Put 'Innovations' on the coin
I pulled the trigger, now its mine
Mama - series just began!
But now they've gone and thrown it all away all of us are going to make a shedload of money on the first one :)

Royal Mint, ooh, ooh
You didn't mean to make me cry
But if I'm not back again next time for the next 'proof'
Carry on, carry on as if QC doesn't matter

Too late, the coin has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Quality's lacking all the time
Goodbye everybody, I've got to grade...

Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth!
Mama, ooh (anyway the grade goes) I don't want to sell
I sometimes wish I'd never bought this at all!

Etc etc etc (radio version edit fades out here :)).

You my friend have too much time on your hands but I’m glad you do!

There's obviously massive demand for this coin, and they're trying to acquire some coins from those who bought more than one so they could satisfy raging fans who didn't manage to order one... I guess...

I'm not surprised given that the email doesn't seem to have gone out to everyone.

I am curious for those having orders cancelled - did you place multiple orders for the same address or did you place one order for multiple quantities and the quantity has just been bumped down to 1?

Its pretty simple the way it was explained to me. If you have more than one coin and there is any link to the same address you will only get 1 coin.

IMHO. They are primarily backtracking payment addresses
