Wow - so sorry to see this. What an absolute pigs dinner.

The packaging is pretty poor too - which will not have helped. It makes no sense to send out such a valuable item in this packaging...they send out the piggy banks in massive boxes full of poly-shells and they are only worth 95.00. I would have expected large bubble wrap and proper care and attention here - not their usual cardboard fold overs.

Hope this gets sorted soon - not great to have to wait for a long time like this.

yup, the Una box not even fully sealed upon opening, no wrapping, bubble wrap anything.

hhmmmm the plot thickens - so as i left the my office half hour or so to make a spot of lunch and calm my raging anger and red mists

I return to see the marks that were there, suddenly are not !!! 🙄😲  I remember feeling how cold the outer box/case was when opening it

It looks like it must have been some sort of water vapour/moisture that was present or something. That must have evaporated at room temperature

I have gave the coin capsule a clean to remove all finger prints

Aside from a tiny little surface dust, which some compressed air should shift away, the coin appears OK unless my eyes are playing tricks on me ?

Would you be happy to keep this ?

What do you guys think?  return to Royal Mint or keep ?

I would have  a good look with a 7x or 10x (if you have one) loupe. At the end of the day, you have spend nearly 2k per ounce for this coin and the fact you are even a little bit concerned tells me that you need to return this. Think ahead and that whilst a collector will want this, will they be so happy with the way the box is damaged etc.? If you're paying top dollar for this coin, the very least you should expect is a properly delivered item with NO issues at all that they could not foresee. They could foresee damage to the box given how they sent it. If you disagree with this, ask yourself why they send their porcelain in heavy duty wrap...they foresee damage and pack/wrap accordingly.,

I caved a few days ago and bought the silver version. If it comes in a box that is damaged, I will be returning this and asking them to send one that is pristine. It's not too much to ask.

Not sure if this has already been confirmed (sorry if so) but the East India Co. have a gold version which is still for sale.

I can't help but feel that someone may buy this thinking they are getting the Royal Mint version........

Crooks!

The reverses look pretty alike (apart from the mintmarks), so one might think that they are deliberately trying to catch fools. I just wonder whether they had access to the original dies as well...

They issue on behalf of St Helena so it's probably struck by the Royal Mint. Might even be the same remastered dia but in £5 format.

If it was £1000 less I'd consider it.

It's almost half the size at the same price..thus even more expensive than the Royal Mint offering...and probably of lesser quality. Not as good an investment as the RM one.

I wonder who first had the idea to produce Una and the Lion this year...the British Virgin Islands also released a silver coin earlier this year, much cheaper and can be found at the European Mint and eBay still.

Just had a look on eBay and still no gold Una's listed aside from London Coin Company & their usual exaggerated pricing.

I wonder when the first will show up on auction?  will be interesting to see what the first one sells for at auction on eBay.  See what the "free market/general public" feels the coin is worth to them.

I cant see many of these ever coming to market again, they are that nice in the flesh

LCC claim to only have one left. If they sell out then the market is 150-200% of issue price.

Very few will enter the market so it will take years to work out properly.

Thanks for that info Chris, appreciated.

The coin is really starting to grow on me.  By far my favourite design and also my most weighty coin in my stack

Hopefully this will perform better as a personal pension than my personal pension in years to come

the silver one is appearing on ebay. A really beautiful coin but the presentation box is very disappointing in my opinion .

Looks to be their standard silver one used for £65 coins. Given that you're paying £180 is should have been the same wooden one as the gold. But hey that's RM.
