I assume a lot were melted down after the geopolitical landscape changed in the early 20th century? Makes it even more historic. I am amazed regular people don't know about this 'precursor' to the Euro.

I don't think they ever had CGT because legal tender but VAT on them was removed in 2000.

Future confiscation won't happen. That's too old school antisocial brute force. It will be capital gains and wealth taxes. While the latter would be helped with anonymity, the former capital gains - should you want to sell to someone legitimate - would be your undoing, because if you can't prove purchase price then you'll get capital gains tax forced on the whole.

Im still with Dicker on 1500 by Christmas. Remember, when gold moves it MOVES but then it settles lower... so hopefully around 1500 will be the consistent base.

No western government wants everyone's money in gold and not the stock markets. Hold onto your regulation and legislation hats.

Is it just me or does that coin look like an angel about to take a piss at a urinal.  with a rooster.

Countries issuing coins equivalent to the French 20 gold francs are Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Danish West Indies, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Leichenstein, Romania and Switzerland - it is only Belgium and Switzerland that call them francs though!
One of my expensive coins is a Napoleon AN13 gold 20 francs from the Perpignan mint (Q) with a mintage of only 522 - the very few known in EF (couple? slabbed AU grade) are silly money - sold a bunch of sovereigns to pay for it but I hope it will do better in the long run

I don’t suppose any1 has a list of the 20 francs for the Latin monetary union? I’ve googled it but can’t find a comprehensive list anywhere.  Chards is usually an excellent source of reference but I can’t even find one on there. 
@SilverTanner wow £2500!! If you don’t mind me asking, which coin was that? I’ve heard some of the nepolian Bonaparte 5 franc specifically can be really expensive.
