    Absolutely, I recommend to everyone I speak to, to do their own homework and understand what they are getting into (we all remember Barry last year buying 42k of gold gothics expecting to make more on top of the well over RRP that he’d paid for them). Barry was a cautionary tail and a perfect example of inexperienced buyer, I bet he’s still explaining that one to his Mrs if she’s not already divorced him.
    All anyone can do is enjoy the hobby, and if you are making money at the same time, it’s like getting paid money to play golf or go to the gym that’s the way I look at it.

    My other 10 pennies worth……..in 1989 the Royal Mint could not shift the 1989 proof sovereigns, strangely enough the UK was in a similar economic position🤔
    How many wished they backed the truck up back then ?

    Here is a 24 hour update on what is "available" currently and therefore a calculation on what has been sold.

    Here's my 10 pennies worth, already I've seen guys a little shaky because the coins they have bought have not sold out.......do not be premature,   look at every single first monarch coin set.  1831, 1839, 1902, 1911, 1937, 1953...........Us moral plebs have been given a chance to buy the first KCIII gold proof sovereigns and we are concerned about them not selling out instantly, guys this is an opportunity of a lifetime.   How wealthy would you have to have been to buy a 1937 gold proof sovereign set on launch day?    You would have had to be comfortably middle class and well off, what about 1911? Or back in 1839 with a gold Una and the lion in the set you would have to have been in the elite classes.
    Some people now have a totally instant lifestyle and when things don't move at light speed they don't appear to have the attention span or the ability to step back and look at the bigger picture.  Make your own decisions, but how many times have you said in your life I wish I'd bought X when they came out or I wish you had bought more of them?

    I think today has been a great success.
    I think measuring whether they sell out of 40000+ coins in one day and then saying its a damp squib or failure is not appropriate for the release.
    Remember, if the Royal Mint have sold on average 75% of their stock in the first day then the break down would be over £22 Million in sales.
    That is NOT a bad day for any mint or coin dealer. IN A DAY!
    Breakdown
    1/4 = £690,000
    1/2 = £1,125,000
    Full = £12,162,000
    BU = £2,900,000
    Piedfort = £2,580,160
    3 coin set = £1,680,000
    4 coin set = £1,796,250
    5 coin set = £6,714,000
    Grand Total = £29,647,410
    75% of Grand total: £22,235,558
    As to where things will go in the future for us coinsters - who knows....
    Hopefully I will be able to hold onto these amazing HISTORIC coins for a long time, enjoy them and then part with them at a time of my choosing that allows me to have made some money.
    If you are buying these just to make some extra cash you will probably fail. Some will flip and some will win.
    There is more to life than cash in the bank.
    Are you sorry you asked?

    This may or may not be one for the flippers but I like the design. I'm not really a sov collector but I like the the different reverse designs on the special sovs, so I'll add this one to my collection.

    I'm not sure about that - my memory might be playing tricks, but the silver versions seem to have sold out much quicker than any of the previous issues.

    I may divide opinion posting this, but I think I feel as many others do on this forum, despite the news as of late, that today’s news has been a shock.
    This is a huge shock, albeit expected, given HM The Queens ageing years. She’s the only monarch that those under 70 years old has known.
    I’ve read some not so many dislikable and distasteful comments on the forum today.
    But, I think, no matter what one’s own option is that HM The Queen has given so much to all of us. A duty to the end.
    But above all she was a mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother mother.
    I’ve looked in and out of the forum this afternoon and this evening. But no matter wether you’re a modern stacker, an old stacker, a collector of Gillick sovereigns or modern releases, be that the Tudor Beast’s or The Monarchs collection with Edward VII resale imminent.
    Many people, like myself of this country and also most people of the forum, feel a ‘shift’, a change, has happened today. Within a day a changing of the guard as it were.
    HM The Queen’s passing is a great loss to our country of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
    I wasn’t sure wether to share this with the the wider forum but I will, as I feel I’m mostly amongst friends, but HM The Queen awarded my grandfather with his MBE some 20 years ago.
    It was the happiest day of my grandfathers life.
    He said to me “She was gracious, warm, kind and showed an interest in my achievement at the same time.”
    We are at the end of an era. Regardless of what we collect or stack, we are at the end of a remarkable era.
    I watched the news today, as many others did, the announcement of HM The Queen’s passing and I’m not ashamed to say, I shed a tear when the news was announced.
    But, albeit a fictional character, Padding Bear had the right words for HM The Queen’s reign at her Platinum Jubilee in one sentence “Thank you Ma’am, for everything”.
    Lastly, I’ll leave this photograph of HM The Queen.
    How beautiful she looked. How beautiful she’ll remain.
    This is very odd to write on the forum, but here goes.
    GOD SAVE THE KING.

    Silvergun reacted to sixgun in Why silver price is going down when we have such inflation?
    i became a premium member on the Silver Forum on 3rd February 2016. This is my own reference point - i took out a premium membership solely to buy coins and bars on the forum.
    What was happening a decade ago is of no interest to me.
    The day before i joined, the spot price of silver was £9.88. https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/silver-price/10-year-silver-price/
    Today the spot price is £16.43.
    According to https://www.hl.co.uk/tools/calculators/inflation-calculator the price of silver should be less than £13 if it kept up with 'inflation'.
    Silver has more than kept up with inflation over this period. As with all these things it depends on the reference dates you choose.
    i have almost never paid 'VAT' on silver. My new silver was all bought in the EU from Estonia / Germany / Belgium. The rest was second hand. i have bided my time and pick up pieces when i liked them and the price appeared right. The other physical i hold is on the Kinesis exchange which i bought at less than a couple of percent above spot.
    i have never sold any silver and always knew it was for the long haul. A ten year+ investment.
    Everything is speculation except paper money; you don't need to speculate its purchasing power will diminish.
    Gold and silver coin are money - that is why we see £ on the coins. The paper notes are credit, they carry a promise to pay the bearer - except we know that promise is worthless.
    Gold and silver are the real money - they are manipulated by the central banks and the exchange stabilisation entities. Physical silver is a very small market - there isn't enough to make all the coin these days. It is easy to manipulate with derivatives and that is just what has happened since it was withdrawn from circulating coinage. Really we will have to wait until the paper currency schemes break. We can see the BRICS is organising a physically backed currency in which silver ranks third after gold and oil/gas. When the present counterfeit system breaks it will be too late. You need to have your stack in place. i have had my stack for a few years now - that is why i joined in 2016. Now i wait. i do not worry about my stack and i have no regrets.
