Just received my Queen's Beasts 1/4 silver proof set. I think it looks great considering their tiny size. Each coin isn't far off a 20p size, just tiny bit bigger.

    As I said here:

So I am on my first vacation day traveling, making a stop at Frankfurt. I know Frankfurt well, as I worked there for a couple of years. It is also the place where I first started to invest in precious metals, buying my first 1/10 ounce Philharmonic at Pro Aurum in Bad Homburg. I emancipated, getting more knowledgeable and bolder.
One of the better places to buy and sell loose gold coins over the counter is a chain of pawn shops called Exchange AG - they have fair premiums and a fairly low spread. They are scattered throughout Germany. So I went just outside Frankfurt central railway station, to get Covid tested and to look for some goodies...

I got rid of the Dukaten and got another
    20 Franken Vreneli (Switzerland)

    So eventually, today I received...

All fine in the end apart from the glaring error of the Year of the Pig coin being put into the tamper-evident card the wrong face up so you can only see the "Trial of the Pyx" lettering on the Queen's side.
    Where do those premiums go...

    Hello everyone,
New to this forum and also new to precious metals. I've been reading and watching plenty of content online and I am keen to start building a modest portfolio. I'm interested purely as a way of turning cash into something more resilient.
I aim to be a stacker not a numismatist, but I do appreciate the intrinsic beauty of shiny things. And who knows, as I learn more I dare say I'll find myself getting more interested in that side of it too.
Just wanted to introduce myself and just generally thank the community here for having built a really useful resource of information especially for newcomers like myself.
    Have a great weekend everyone.

Suitable for grading, maybe so, maybe not.
    I can’t decide....

Question is if silver would act as a sacrifical anode for gold under normal conditions.

This little beauty came today. Paid the same as a bullion 1/4 Brit so happy days. Tiny little copper spot on the shield but I can look past that quite easily.
Really wish I looked into gold a lot sooner than last year as I would love the full set of these.

Today these arrived in the post. A couple of 2020 silver Britannias with Oriental border from Sharps Pixley's mixed date selection.

I acquired these at the Midland coin fair at the weekend. The hall marks on the sovereign case reveal that it was made by Frank Banks of Birmingham in 1911. Curiously my wife found a six penny saving tube in a rummage box at the Great Central railway gala the week previously. The lettering reads ‘Wireless Licence £1 Savings Bank’. Some ideas just keep going around although my wife’s find was a lot cheaper as it only cost me £1.

Early on in my stacking journey the best advise I had was ''know your exit strategy before buying something'' and that is really something to take into consideration. Gold and silver will always sell at a price, the question is only if you are happy with the price for which it sells. So in terms of purchases, if you are planning to hold for a considerable period of time (10+ years I'd say), it really doesn't matter that much what you buy as long as you enjoy it.

Now I've been dabbling a bit in buying silver/gold, and than trading off one of the two in favour of the other. In that regard, the higher liquidity the better, so sticking with popular bullion coins (Brits, Krugs, (half)sov's) is the way to go in my opinion. I've also bought a few  premium / collectable pieces for ''investment' purposes and I found it incredibly hard to shift them when I tried, despite some of these coins being absolutely amazing! But it taught me a good lesson about considering my purchases better. These have now been added to the long term stack and I'll figure out what to do with them in the years to come.

    Bottom line really:

    1) Know your exit strategy before buying
    2) Short term buys - popular coins that are highly liquid
    3) Long term buys - basically buy whatever you fancy
    4) Enjoy the hobby either way.

While definitely not anything special, these are the lowest premium I have been able to get since I recently started stacking. Getting more for my money makes me happy.
