Welcome to the forums 🙂
What coins did you collect so far?

KevinFlynn reacted to BullionBuyerUK in Forum newbie!
Hi all, I'm James from Wiltshire in the UK. I have signed up to the silver forum as recently I've started to expand my collection of gold and silver bullion coins. I don't have a huge collection that some people on here do, but everyone has to start somewhere.
Heard about the forum form different YouTube videos I've watched, so thought I'd sign up so I can gain some knowledge on my coins I all ready have and future purchases.
Looking forward to chatting with you all,
James

1986 IoM Gold Proof Angel
Many thanks to @jultorsk for this splendid wee Angel.
Before the Tower Mint took over with their twee transangel design, the Pobjoy Mint in Sutton produced beautiful Manx coins involving good old-fashioned toxic masculinity.
The world was a happier and better place then.

KevinFlynn reacted to Lindeman in Today I Received.....
Been looking for this one for a while, the elusive 2014 gold Libertad proof 1/4 oz, graded PF70. At only 250 coins, the lowest mintage in the series (tied with 2020). Now just waiting for the next hunt for the 2021 proofs …

KevinFlynn got a reaction from Griffo in Is it usual to refuse other Gold than 24 Carat as a Newbie?
They are not 24 carat as most of these coins were meant to be used and pure gold would have been too soft for that.
A little alloying means it is much more robust to daily wear and tear.

KevinFlynn reacted to dicker in Did anyone lose a book?
A small section! Many books On treasure wrecks are cheap as chips because they are from the 1960’s onward and are second hand and out of print.
Some books are expensive because of small print runs or were privately published. I recently purchased “Money of their own” By Murray Teigh Bloom about counterfeiters after finding a reference to is on @LawrenceChard’s website. A fascinating read with a good chapter on a Sovereign counterfeiters!

Looks quartzy to me, which would be the correct gold bearing mineral. Such a nice piece, with family history attached 😊

KevinFlynn reacted to HerefordBullyun in How do the various mints from around the world actually make coins, rounds and bars from scratch?
Ah yes the same man I met in a pub. He was the one with extremely long pockets and very short arms, espically when he bought a round in the pub.

KevinFlynn got a reaction from mr1030 in Currencies and money
Anecdote: somewhere in the 1980s or 90s, a couple found hidden under the timbers of their attic a bundle of 20 Mark Banknotes, a couple hundred Mark hidden away by possibly their grandparents. Hidden away for a rainy day. If the cache had only contained the same in 20 Mark Gold Coins...
