Anecdote: somewhere in the 1980s or 90s, a couple found hidden under the timbers of their attic a bundle of 20 Mark Banknotes, a couple hundred Mark hidden away by possibly their grandparents. Hidden away for a rainy day. If the cache had only contained the same in 20 Mark Gold Coins...

@KevinFlynn

Nice bank notes - do you collect these along with PM's?

There is an outstanding book on bank notes which is non-mainstream - I will try and dig out the link.  Professional book that I suspect is mainly sold to banks - quite expensive but superb.

Not a collection per se, I'm just getting what complements my interest in coinage.

I'm fascinated by the history of the late Victorian Age and New Imperialism, up to the 1920s however. So if I find something interesting like this

I'll get it - isn't this the pinnacle of currency pervertion? I think it cost me a tenner, do we want to know how much an equivalent coin would cost these days?
