Yeah this was a mistake on the RM's part. It puzzled me why they'd of put it there and I know annoyed a few who were after it but couldn't find it where it should have been. They made several errors like this too with the annual sets released on Tuesday showing wrong photos which misled a number of people who have since cancelled their orders.

Also saw it available release day but I don't have anywhere near enough confidence in these to spend out on the more expensive gold or larger silver proofs. Too many variations and who knows what is still to come this year.

Keeping all that I bought for the forseeable future. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the flippers - if there is the usual profit taking before prices dip or if prices stay high. Personally I'm hoping for a dip as I wouldn't mind getting a few more since I was only able to order so much on the day.

I have a fair amount of cash set aside. Most of what I own is tied up in physical assets namely the house I live in and land I've purchased in the UK and Canada. Some is silver and gold. An equal amount to the silver and gold I would guesstimate is cash. I'm really not comfortable with it in this current climate but when the pandemic first took hold in early 2020 I made the decision to move a decent amount of cash to where it could be easily accessed because I imagined opportunities would arise from the sitaution. Some opportunities have arisen and I've made some good money being able to jump on things quicker than I could have if that cash wasn't sitting there. However I say my comfort level is decreasing because in all aspects of my business and work life costs are soaring. As has been discussed in another thread inflation is way higher than the official figures and from everything I see happening I can only see it getting worse. The problem is its hard to find assets at this point which haven't inflated over the last two years so its hard to feel confident about where to park cash.

As others have already said, this is nothing new. Perhaps you only just noticed, but I / we published information about their pricing of secondary market "historic" coins, up to about 20 years ago.

At one point they threatened to sue us for defamation because we mentioned their "rip-off" prices. Their solicitors wrongly, but presumably deliberately nd dishonestly stated that "rip-off" implied dishonesty. It does not. Needless to say, they did not proceed with their threatened action, because it was unfounded, without merit, and they would have lost the case, and had to pay our sustantial legal costs. The judgment in our favour would have served to confirm our position, and probably have caused permanent harm to the Royal Mint's reputation.
Somewhere we have a web page with more detail about the case, but I could nnot quickly find it as it is on one of our "historic" heritage sites, which we no longer actively maintain.

The queue system has definitely changed. In the past I'd get on earlly and wait and that generally always got me a decent enough spot to get what I was after. Since the Sov launch though its been pretty awful with queue spots generally well in the thousands. Don't know why its suddenly changed but it is what it is. Thankfully other dealers usually list big coin releases after the initial 9am RM release time so there are options apart from the RM. You can also ring the mint if you get in the queue and discover you have a terrible position. Those two options are the only way I managed to get the 2022 proof sovs I wanted and the Gothic Crown.
I think this release was slightly off from the norm more generally because it was very well publicised with most media outlets doing a piece on these coins. I even had people who know I have an interest in coins asking about them because they'd seen it on the BBC or whatever. Would of meant there were more people trying than normal yesterday morning.

I think the change to the Queue-it system is their way of addressing the previous problem with overselling their products. There was such a large number of orders made simultaneously that they were typically overselling and then faced with a backlash from angry customers that had their orders cancelled. To address the issue, they have slowed the Queue-it system down to a snails pace. To Fix one problem, they have created another.

Still would like to see a reverse frosted 2022 sov.  

The £5 too. All the ones released today have the horseback portrait.

I've also ordered one through the Coin Connection.  It means I can sit back and watch the fun when the RM starts selling them.  I think the fact that both Chards and the Coin Connection sold all their pre-order coins within a couple of hours means that this should be a very popular release.

Wonder what the larger silver coins had for the Seymour Panther at the end.
The 3G's was UK20WW2S which roughly follows the Gothic Crown but would imagine WW is William Wyon. The Una was UK19UL2S - UL for Una Lion I imagine. Interesting that the first referenced the coin while the second referenced the original designer with the third referencing the series. No consistency! 😝

If that would have happened I think the RM would have had everyone returning their annual sets 😂 The £5 with JC portrait is the only reason I bought it! Would have much preferred a smaller set of the two coins.

I thiink if not for the design of these I'd of sat them out but I am an absolute sucker for a good shield/coat of arms type coin. The "smaller coin" design is stunning, IMO.

Just because they sold out doesn’t make them winners.
A couple hundred folk also bought out the overpriced Sovereign and Half-Sovereign sets.
They’ll all be stuck with them and eventually have to sell them at Bullion prices.
Several months back I stumbled on a similar Sovereign set for the Queen’s 90th Birthday and got the set in pristine condition at bullion rates.

Hope you managed to grab one from Chards in that case. My queue numbers have been terrible the last few releases so its nice to be able to get this one stress free.
