Hi @Goldhooked I think when I mentioned the 2-3% premium, I was referring to people shopping around and buying all sorts of coins in general, from less reliable sources than a main dealer...and not on getting these beautiful coins a little over spot. Hope that makes sense!
I see.
It would be great though to get these 20 franc coins at 2% over spot on a regular basis

For me the odd 2 or 3% is irrelevant in what I collect, and I really don’t know why so many people obsess about it.
Id happily pay 2 or 3% premium all day long but I’m not finding them for that. I thought I was lucky to get my first one for roughly 5% premium.
The cheapest ones on eBay at the moment are around 10% over spot.

Not looked at the seller today but can do if you are still interested in the 1899. You have till sunrise because if it’s as good as this I’m buying for myself 😂 remi9647
@Goldhooked same applies to you matey!..you know you need another!
Great looking Rooster you have there!
Thanks for the thought. Although you are absolutely correct in that I need another, as more of a stacker than a collector (AKA tight b*stard) I couldn't bring myself to pay that much of a premium.

🤐 Not gonna say much about JB eBay auctions, but he does have helping hands to increase his prices to silly amounts........
Shill bidding, completely illegal. People have been convicted of it - http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/10508913/man-fined-over-fake-ebay-auctions
Not sure who you report it to though. EBay normally don’t give a stuff!

I don’t understand why Brexit would effect the gold price? Gold is a worldwide commodity, traded in 3/4 of the world who couldn’t give a damn about the outcome of Brexit. As mentioned before, it’s the value of the Pound that’s at risk. Surely gold is a good hedge against that?
Or am I way off the mark?

Make sure it’s real, lots of fake JM bars floating around. It’s got the serial number which is a good sign. Check the back design and compare it here - https://www.fakebullion.com/index.php/component/k2/item/17-johnson-matthey-1-ounce-silver-bar
Apologies if you know all this already.

Delivered by Yodel!
That reminds me of a delivery by Yodel we had at work this week. It was a box of printer paper and the outside box was completely torn open at one end - literally the whole end of the box was flapping loose and you could see the contents. I could see the paper inside looked ok on that edge (and it was only printer paper!) but I still wrote a note on the PDA when I signed that said "box damaged" just in case. The Yodel driver took great offence to this and said "Its not damaged, its just open slightly" That is just one example why we don't use Yodel to deliver anything!

Hmm, depends on what should be cheap for this coin..
They seem to go on eBay for around the £20 mark regularly with good packaging.

The 50% rarely sell less than twice spot value. Always in high demand.
Yep. I keep a look out for any cheeky deals but I can't bear paying twice spot for anything! More of a stacker than a collector me.

Did a quick search on ebay, hard to find, and not sure what they should be worth..
On eBay even worn ones often go for way over spot. There are so many people watching for them to be listed.
Just had a look at a few recent sold listings - some very worn 925 versions sold for £13+ where spot value is currently around £9.40. Plenty of good examples going for £20+. Even the 1935 "rocking horse" 0.500 crown often goes for £20+ where spot value is currently around £5.

never seen them before, they look great!
Quite a few varieties. Later ones were 0.500 silver - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?mode=avance&p=1&l=&r=&e=royaume-uni&d=&ca=3&no=&i=&v=1+crown&m=silver&a=&t=&dg=&w=&u=&f=&g=&tb=y&tc=y&tn=y&tp=y&tt=y&te=y&cat=y

Are those the silver 15 gram - 20 pound George and the dragon coins or is that a different one?
Old British currency - sterling silver crowns by the looks of it. At 28 grams, bigger than the new 999 silver £20 coins.

There are the £100 coins too. Both the £20 and £100 coins are ‘legal tender’ but shops and banks won’t accept them. One guy got caught out trying to earn a load of ‘free’ credit card points....

Wow, silver sovs? Didn't know they existed, now I want one!!!
They’re not actually sovs. They are £20 coins with George & dragon on the reverse. They are just over 15 grams of 999 silver and come with a bit of a premium. You can pick them up for around £20, a bit less on eBay sometimes.

I agree with all the comments above, and will attempt to get a replacement. I purchased it from APMEX via presale for $1,506. So $15.06/oz is good, but I would expect more from a brand new bar. Thank you all for your input!
They’re around £1500 here so approx $19.50/toz!! You lucky Americans
