Finally took the plunge on a coin that I’ve long been wanting to add to the collection.

Two 2017 £5’s.  The Lifetime of Service coin features a 1970 Humphrey Paget Portrait of Prince Philip. And the Canute is one of my favourite modern Crown designs.

    What I have received today...?
Of course, as all of you, the Council tax bill for 2022/2023.
And a beautiful scroll holder, solid silver .800, big enough to hold an A4 paper.😊

I would vote no. It looks a wee bit too worn to enjoy imho.
If you want a garter Sovereign but are not too fussed about it being an 1817, perhaps look for an 1820 one? You’ll likely find one in much better condition for around the same money or perhaps just a little more.

Not mine, but I got to hold it in my (slightly wobbly) hand for almost a full minute, that must qualify posting on photo thread right? 😅 Thought to share as these do not crop up every day. Raw, recently sold for about GBP8.7k.

    1) 1918 15 Rupees AU58 back from grading via @CoinsOfTheRealmAuctions- great service, would recommend if considering grading. Overjoyed it hasn’t returned with a dreaded details designation (or worse, fake).
    2) 1912 Gold Canada $5 MS63 from the Coin Connection to go along with my 1912 Canada $10. I quite enjoy the story behind these coins. https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/the-bank-of-canada-hoard/1002

Picked up several SA proof sets which will hopefully be in hand by the weekend. Here are a few of the crowns.

Very odd, removing the exact thing that originally built their popularity. I presume the sellers commission fee of 9 or 10% will be remaining also. Hopefully this isn’t tantamount to business suicide for them.
Can’t say that I’ve ever bought from them, but I have used them a few times for submitting coins to PCGS for grading and i have always been more than happy with their service.

What a strange pivot from TCC. They started off as the "radical underdog" disrupting the coin auction scene, and everyone loved the new kid on the block.
Now it's buyer's commission, 'Head of Creative' and Invaluable/Saleroom, much as everyone else.
"We understand that this is a big change. We hope that you continue to use our services as the new rate is still one of the lowest in numismatic auctions, and we will still provide our clients with our stellar customer service throughout the auction process."
    🤐
Also no mention of their grading service (only offered to those who consign the coin - prior to knowing the grade!), or the Marketplace that was announced a while ago. 🤷‍♂️

The collectors market is elastic and forever changing month to month.
The more you ride the pm train the more you'll learn.
watch the auctions, watch feebay, watch sales here, feel the sentiment, take the risks you'll win some you'll lose some, you'll never back a winning pm release if you don't participate.
Inflation is rife, fuel, heating, rent, interest, food take your pick everyone is affected in some way or it's shaping your judgment.  All time high gold prices to
Not the best environment for bidded up mega prices at the mo.
The unloved / out of favour / flippers pieces of today may be the wanted pieces of years to come.
Been so many lovely pieces out in past 2 years qb completer,3  grace, 2022 sovereigns, jubilee issues, gothics crowns. The market is flooded currently. Once these are not readily avaible in 5-10 years you'll know the true market value once they show up every 6-12 months for sale. hope this helps

After 20 years, it still maintains very well, but it feels less red than 1989. If you don't look at the queen's side, it is actually not much different from proof. With 1989, the target progress has reached 2/3

That's a good start of the week. 3 OZ Millenium Falcon, well done by the NZ Mint, or should i say Perth Mint, @LawrenceChard?
Whoever minted this, did me a favor. 🥳
Could be projected and minted by B.H. Mayer and CIT Coins, like the 1 Kilo Death Star. Their Smartminting technique has no contenders, only followers. 😏 I don't like every design by them, but in modern minting they are the undisputed grandmasters in my opinion.
