Did the mint go over coins manually with a stamp to correct these errors? And what era did they stop this and instead just send the errors back to the foundry, or whatever?
It's the die not the coin that is corrected or changed. There are various reasons as to why it may happen (eg using dies from the previous year to save costs), but ones like above are just mistakes and poor quality control

It's probably about VF but not a bad buy then!
Great buy for sure, lovely clear A as @sovereignsteve mentioned, hardly any Branch overdates really so nice one to have in the collection!

You need larger paper.
Is that a single buy??George V is tricky to lay out because of so many branch mints, young heads fit perfectly in two rows of 3, 1871-1879 then 1880-1887

Looks like the die has been damaged rather than the coin. As the lines are beneath the devices.
How do you mean damaged? It looks like a perfect round coin edge, not a mis-strike or something? can that even happen?

Doesn't look to be a short tail there.
Although the question is probably moot as I don't think there are tail variations in those years.
It may look like it because of the wear, which is often where confusion comes from. IMO you can only really be very sure of the differences on high grade coins
Also yes no variations here as they are all long tails, not sure I would say its moot though 100%, because i've already found additional unrecorded tail varieties for other years, though of course they are older sovereigns

Today I sacked my previous account manager at the Royal Mint.
Forgot to order me a 2018 Beatrix Potter Roger Rabbit 50p Proof for my Grandson - unforgivable!!
Forgot to order me the 2018 Queens Beasts 1/4 Oz Proof Black Bull - plain ridiculous!!
Both were on Regular Order - I was (past tense now) with the Marque Department - sacked them for the normal sales team - far more reliable and friendly! You have an account manager? What do they do?
I just go online and buy, got a few of the 1/4 Bulls no issue

Depends how determined you are to sell really
I'm in acquisition phase, not planning on selling anything "decent" for a decade or two !

1887 halves are "scarce" and very popular.
Yes I have at least 10 of 1887, I'm saying this looks like a very nice one and would almost make me pay the premium for it! When I say "I've not moved into them", i mean I've not actively started date runs and organising etc, and completing halfs because of the premiums will be a LOT more costly.
Of course the ones I get are lucky dip, so cheap. Not to say a few aren't very nice though. I believe my profile pic is an 1887 half

I have mine listed as, one EF, one aEF, one gVF.
I wouldn't price them at 2k but then again the free market decides the price not me!

Do they (or hatton) ever get shields in? I haven’t seen any although only watched closely for the last few months
Hatton do very rarely, and I buy most of them

Something like that, there are a lot of die numbers to collect so this is the easiest way for now!
Good news is I'll have plenty for sale at some point because I have a few duplicates already
