Thanks for the pics, looks better than stock imo. Going to get them just waiting on market closes as its been dipping all day, might have a final slump for weekend.

    What a great series!

@sg86 LOL no spots if it had any I would have sent it back, I like the coin & will most likely collect the set, I would have liked to see that design in 2oz proof version but the 1oz is good for now. I'm contemplating the 10oz but it is expensive we'll see.

Well its no laughing matter seeing as many have opened up tubes/taken coins from storage to find them covered in spots! What would you do next year when its time to grab the griffin but the lion is milky? send it back?

1oz Lion of England silver proof.

Any spots? looks pretty nice, can't bring myself to pay the premium still though, spot free might change my mind but its impossible to know what will happen in a few months i guess

    £30 is +3% on £1000/oz

including delivery it's only slightly higher than hgm?

    HH

I also don't understand how cheap they want them to be

Personally i'm just deciding when to buy my beasts :D, 1/4s seem to have a huge premium on them, i'd buy at 250 now if anyone knows a dealer :)

Decided to splash out for a case in the end.  You'll need one for your 1/10th Brits too :)

Well this one was on the second hand market, so a great price! Though after receiving this i probably will get a custom one made for 30 - 1/10 brits yea, expensive though, even more so with the exrate change :(

Nice case @sg86 Where are these sold if you don't mind me asking?

Mastercoincases, but the leatherwork isn't "standard" anymore it seems due to the cost in producing it, but even the printed fronts are probably decent quality. @morezone knows more than me!

True. You even see them for sale graded as VF, EF etc

Never realised that, I mean they are pretty interesting but not sure grading is needed :D. I have an 1821 full sov one too that is in super good condition, will put on in each display box in the corner or something

I saw this but the price made my eyes water, clearly i don't watch the market enough if that was a good buy!

£160 premium on a gold set ....the 5oz silver are going at £1000 premium not to mention the 1oz.

These rarely come up for sale and usually snapped up..

When i clicked through an email they sent me i'm sure it was over a grand for this set, 100% premium i guess isn't too bad

No I'm not saying that, yours is an IEB if that's what you want to call it, although it's not generally referred to as such, but as an imperfect J

Ah with you! Everywhere I googled about the types it was called IEB so just went with it :)

  9. 25 minutes ago, sovereignsteve said:

Not sure why you would want a photo, yours is perfectly good. If it's to compare, I can have a search around or it might be better if I dig mine out and photograph them, I've got several.

Dependant on date. Were we talking about the 1892 before? The 1887 is in a league of it's own re: variations.

Just trying to see what an IEB does look like, if you say this is no one :)

Yea the others were 1892. I'll get some books for half's I think

  10. 8 hours ago, sovereignsteve said:

Nice half, aEF IMO. There are several versions of the 1887 and the literature isn't too helpful. Marsh describes them all but doesn't give an indication of rarity or value. Spink gives prices but not for all variations.

Yours is the normal sized JEB with loop of J missing and a high shield, probably one of the most common types. Note the JEB letters not in line, occurs with this type. Also the colon after DEF is slightly slanting inwards, this only occurs in the 1887 but the rarity of different combinations is unclear.

The ones with small JEB are probably the rarest, two types; letters together and spread.

Thanks for this, yes it is hard to find info. Do you have any pics of what an IEB should look like at this kind of resolution? I can only find really bad ones and they just look like mine. I need to take some fully focused on the J/I St some point I think

Regarding the high shield, I thought you said when I posted the others that the high shield was scarcer than the low? Or is that dependant on date

  11. Picked up this 1/4 sovereign, does anyone know where its from?  I thought a tristan da cunha as this portrait of the queen looks like theirs but i can't find a reference to it

edit: Just noticed the TDC on the obverse :D. Would still be interested if someone could find a mintage figure for me!

Looks much nicer in hand than photos, its pretty small and i rushed the photos just now

    Hi Numistacker

I got these coins in a bulk  job lot of brits  i brought a couple of years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find  some of the coins were proofs.

I have made my money back on the coins and more so i am happy , So what you call no sense, I call offering some one a good deal and the coins will find a home were they are appreciated.

But i am sorry if my deals have offended you in any way, But in the future could you please do one of the following three-

1  PM me if you think i am doing something that makes no sense

    2  Buy the bloody thing

3 Maybe make a YouTube video and i could receive royalties

There was going to be four options but i am to polite     :D

£140 is about 15% as it stands so for a mix of Jubs and YHs in that condition, it's not far off bearing in mind you have 3 Jubs and none of them are remarkable. If you can consistently buy YHs for £140 you can't go far wrong.

In better collectable grade, prices can get pretty high. Similar to fulls really.

All those look to be low shield so you need a JEB. High shield without JEB is good too.

I would be happy to pick more up at 140 just can't find any! :D

Also condition wise i think its impossible to judge via pictures, I could take a picture of a seemingly flawless proof and show its flaws. I can also take a picture that'll make any of those 5 half sovs look almost mint (apart from wear of course)

Nothing in my eyes for 15 degrees

180, a different kettle of fish

    ouch

What is the going rate for buns really then, they seem to be all over the place. I paid on average 140 for the 5 above

your 63 and 75 are both down as 'normal'.

maybe check those 1892 obverse for

    J.E.B ?

    HH

Thanks for that, i'll buy marsh's half sov book soon.

None of the 92 have JEB on them assuming i'm looking in the right place!
