Hi I’m new to the forum, I am looking to sell a 1887 Queen Victoria 11 Coin Jubilee coin set. I have see a lot of bullion and various coins being sold but not many coin sets similar to this. Do you think I am in the right place to sell this type of coin set?

Any comments welcome

Thanks

I guess it largely will depend on condition and expected price. Its a beautiful set but not something I could price personally.

A few names that maybe able to shed light on a likely/realistic price would be but not limited to..

Welcome to the forum @James81 and thanks to @James32 for the tag.

My area of interest is half sovereigns and particularly the jubilee head of 1887-1893 but I am by no means an expert. Looking forward to seeing what others say, but for sure the first step is sharing images and more detail on condition. The condition is the key and certainly, for example, the difference in good and very good condition for the 1887 half could be hundred of pounds!

Selling on here is possible, but if the coins are in good condition you may want to consider grading and then consigning to auction. I can not help with NGC as I do not grade with them but I would be happy to help with PCGS if you were interested. Anyway, once again, welcome to the forum!!

Pics look good but for grading purposes you really need someone to look at them. The silver looks like it has a beautiful natural tone. Dolphin grey in places! Gorgeous.

Out of interest can you show me clear pictures of the obverse of the half sovereign? Where possible as clear as possible of the JEB on the truncation? Curious to see which variety it is!! Cheers!

Really great looking set! Looks like they have barely ever been out of the box. Amazing toning on the silver. Shame to see them taken and put in to plastic slabs🤔

Hi Petra, so is that what they would do if they were graded? Would the set effectively be split up?

No, not at all. However, what you quite often see with more modern, five/three coin sovereign sets for example is that they end up being sold separately.. not always. I do have some slabbed coins, however, personally I prefer them not in slabs. Good as your silver coins are, those gold ones look really great from those pictures 😮🤔

Thanks, I do agree the silver coins are a lovely, this is the best I can do at the moment with a close up. What is the significance of the JEB?

I will send you a document on the Jubilee Head half sovereign. I can’t post a link as it’s no longer live but I have a PDF I can PM you. Looks like you have one of the nice rare ones (‘small close JEB’ rather than the no JEB or irregular type). If, of course, that is the smaller gold coin - the half and not one of the larger ones?

Here are some images of my own 1887’s - an MS66 irregular, MS63 No JEB and an MS63 small close JEB. All PCGS:
