Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I’m relatively new to stacking and wondering where the best place to buy gold (sovereigns and Britannia's) and silver 1oz Britannia's in the UK. I’m keen to avoid fakes and get new/mint coins with low premiums.

* Royal Mint directly

*Chards

*Bullion by Post

* Hatton Garden Metals

* tavexbullion.co.uk

* other

Thanks!

Firstly welcome aboard.

All the dealers you mentioned are safe, but if you grab a membership on here,you will no doubt find what your looking for cheaper. You will also see exactly the condition of items before you purchase. The reason I mentioned a membership, is otherwise it takes 3 days for you to see new sales posts,and as you can imagine, all the bargains will be sold rather quickly.

Enjoy the journey.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

I am slightly biased, but for a good reason.

You might find this advice page useful:

What @James32 means by "The reason I mentioned a membership, is otherwise it takes 3 days for you to see new sales posts,and as you can imagine, all the bargains will be sold rather quickly.", is that he will have bought all the bargains.

To add to this, I got silver membership this month and I have had my membership pay for itself within the first 3 days, krugs for £24.50 compared to £30+ at dealers, much cheaper pandas, kookaburras.

Love it here, and having to wait 3 days was a killer, permanently seeing things I wanted completed.

The only bad thing is the deals are TOO good. Please send help, Ive massively overspent this month.

TLDR for what you are looking for I would go with Chards to get low premium good condition sovereigns.

In my experience:

Chards are great for sovereigns, best price for guaranteed good condition bullion sovereigns if you don't mind waiting a while for them to come in stock:

Bullion By Post I find to be generally too expensive, occasionally they have a good special offer on.

Atkinsons are very good in general.

Royal Mint - Don't do it to yourself, I found the prices there are too high and personally experienced poor customer service, plus the website isn't great when searching.

To add to what @ant1882 already stated. If you care about the condition and appearance of your BULLION coins or bars here's my take:

For above "average" condition of new bullion coins: Chards and Atkinsons are good overall from my own experience.

If you don't mind random knocks, scratches and severe fingerprint marks: beware of Bairds and Sharps Pixley. They don't really handle their products well and the staff (from my experience) couldn't care less. This is referring to past instore experiences.

Good luck on your journey! 🙂

Another place for gold and silver - https://www.philatelicheritage.co.uk/

One problem I found with silver bullion Britannia coins is when you find out the older ones had different reverse designs some years.  I wish they would start that up again.

Next you find out there are lunar privy marked ones and so on - which by then, low premiums go out the window....(like the Year of the Pig privy marked Britannia).

The following is a good site which shows various Britannia coin and other releases.

Well I have a decent amount of silver and almost no gold, and with the recent drop I decided to drop some money into gold. The thing is I have yet to find gold(coin, bullion, scrap) that is even near spot. I was hoping I could get some help from you all. I prefer to buy US currency due to that it is easily reconizable, but I am all ears.

Welcome to the forum. This is mostly a UK-based forum and while there is a USA & Canada sale section for you to check out I'm afraid it is a lot slower over there.

I understand that the US secondary market is largely on Instagram and Facebook, but obviously you should be careful to avoid scams any time you're not dealing with a reputable dealer.

This isn't the original threat poster (AFAIK), it's a new user who has started here for some reason. @nabikaw you might want to head over to the the new members' section and introduce yourself there: https://www.thesilverforum.com/forum/10-welcome-new-members/
