I've seen folks have real trouble shifting big gold proofs here on TSF on more than one occasion.  Not many folks have a spare £15,000 to throw about on a single coin, so they're prone to liquidity problems.  Most proof coins, even from the RM, don't hold their value and make a poor investment.  You will quite probably take a bath of £5,000 or more on one of the 5oz proofs if you try to re-sell it.  IMO these are bad mojo.
You would be far better off buying Brits or Sovs - and don't for the love of god buy them from the Royal Mint web site either.  Shop around the major bullion dealers for the best price -  as a starting point, for Brits try HGM, Chards, Tavex, Bairds or Atkinsons, and for Sovs try Bairds, HGM or Blundell's.  You could also try the secondary market - here on TSF or various FB groups, but avoid Ebay as the prices will be too high.
If you're going to get into sovereigns, you should do your homework.  At a minimum, get a copy of the Marsh book The Gold Sovereign.  Other useful books include Spink's Coins of England and the United Kingom, and Allen's Grading British Coins.

Sorry to take this thread off at a tangent but in February I went to the Titanic exhibition in Vegas. It was really good and they have some of the sovereigns that were recovered from the seabed:

I will always say buy what you like and understand your own reasons for buying as people buy for different reasons and different goals.........I remember only a few months ago people were poo pooing all over the mid year jubilee sovereigns and the second QEII sadly passed away the same people who were nay saying were falling over each other to then try and scoop them up.
I'm a collector first so I have a rule "buy what you like"  if you do then theres zero pain holding your coins until you decide to sell them if you do at all.  I think some people over look the joy of the hobby as are turned towards the coins other people covert rather than the ones they like.
My logic as a massive sovereign collector,  to even be alive and have the money at the point and time there is a change in monarchy and being able to buy a 5 coin proof set is truly a gift for me, will these be a slower burner in terms of aftermarket sales?  Absolutely this was always going to be the case, due to some of the points you mention as we were hit with 2 proof sovereign launches in the same year two  proof and two "mid year BU's"  so of course it will place pressure on buyers,  not all some  have endless reserves so best not to forget that even though it might not be the case for everyone.
Agree there is a lot of new coins coming out and it's just too much IMO not just the money aspect, its can be simply exhausting so I will take launches off as I did with the petition crown I did not buy any at all even though they are a very nice coin in hand, I like what the RM did and hope to see more raised edge lettering going forward.
We do live in an "instant" world with people with very short attention spans and if something does not quadruple in price it certainly shakes those who have bought for the wrong reason and especially those who can't afford to hold them out of the tree.    I was scooping 2017 proof sovereigns up for a friction over and some at RRP 3-4 months after the RM release........There's money to be made from those with weak hands.

The colour difference of your 2 sovereigns is a mystery, but I believe neither is a fake. Take your pick of the reasons already suggested.

I have not known any ‘Gillick’ to be anything but golden, and have never seen one a pink reddish colour.
L.C. Seems to be on a break at present and not available….. Rumour has it that he’s been arrested somewhere in the Alps for skiing in his underpants!!😯
Here’s 2 1958 Gillicks sporting their normal colour.

A bullion date run from 1871  (first Vic G&D year) to today.
I've got a fair few shields already but many duplicates so still need about 30 dates between 1838 and 1887.
The years of both shield and G&D I need 2 sovs per the year similar to 2022 with the Memorial and Platinum Jubilee.
Thank you everyone who has helped tagging and messaging and selling in swaps wanted ads and sales 🍻

Please God no more themed sovereigns.   Let the mint produce as many Thomas the Tank , Pinky and Perky or Coronation Street coins as they wish but leave the sovereign alone. Of it produces any more I'm afraid it'll just become another bi monthly money spinner and destroy the magic of the coin.

I totally agree here. It is like watching those programs where a car has been stored in a garage from new with a few miles on the clock only for the owner to die years later. Had zero pleasure from the car and then their family members sell the car at auction to be garaged again. What a complete waste. Buy a car drive it hard and have fun, same with coins, handle and fondle.

    Hi Caz,
Its always difficult to get the correct colour when doing close ups, for various reasons ( Photographic section will explain all) I use a simple I-phone 11  The image can change dramatically as you slowly raise the camera up and down to enhance or eliminate unwanted light/reflections etc. Your QE obverse is showing your own reflection - thus the colour, which in turn makes Charles start to go silvery. However, if the angle is adjusted you can get a cameo affect on proof coins (black) to highlight the relief which often looks good. Experiment, and delete anything that doesn’t look right!😉
Forgot to mention that I often use a photographers GREY card to get a more accurate exposure, as below.

I love the matte finish of the BU coins... I prefer it over the proof. I don't own one but if I could afford it I'd have the BU over the proof I think. Congrats on getting a good quality one. It should fo well over time but only time will tell. At least you're happy to own it, that takes away a lot of the stress straight away.

Silver is more speculative than gold.
Being in the US it might be better for you to go for US coins rather than sovs etc.  I don't know for sure though....
I'd go for coins over bars every time.

Yes, i filed a claim just the other day.
The postcode in their registered business address ends with 'HA1 1RA' but in the eBay postal address it was 'HA1 1BH'.
Google maps takes you to the same location, unless solely the postcodes are searched.
They didn't use the 'Charterhouse Accountants' company name as part of their eBay delivery address, it was simply addressed to a (likely fake name) 'Ani Alfred'.
However, the postman's proof of delivery photo, clearly shows a desk with a piece of unopened mail to 'Charterhouse Accountants' written on it.
I phoned the firm directly on the 22/03 but have not yet received a call back, and I emailed their associate director on 21/03 but I'm still waiting for a response.
I emailed the company director yesterday, so I'll let you know whether he responds.

I got this eBay dispute notification just today (see image), so it appears they may have my back in this instance.

Yep,in the same boat with their communication. The only reason I got two 2oz Charles I Proofs today was because I found this post.
My lesson learned for the RM on a two item order, if one item is in stock and one on ‘2 week back order (yeah sure)’ then buy separately. They have a policy of only shipping complete orders. I have four items held up because of this and money taken.
You all probably know this but worth mentioning for idiots like myself who didn’t.

60k isn’t all that much.  A 1kg bar and a 5oz bar.  In its simplest form. Or about 37 Brits.
Personally I would steer clear of bars and go for Brits or Sovs.
Sovs may be difficult to source in one hit, Brits will be easier - both have CGT benefits.
Do a call round and ask what dealers can do for Sovs and Brits as a pct over spot.  But I would do a cost price avg and spread over say a year.
