2002 Three Lions Gold Proof One Pound   The original UK pound coin appeared in 1983 and was also available in silver proof and Piedfort versions. It took some twenty years before the first gold proof was minted in 2002 - the year of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. As the coin was only offered as part of the RM gold proof 13-coin set, I had believed my chances of snagging an example to be somewhat remote.   A total of 2002 sets were released, so the number of "orphans" is likely to number well below 100.    This particular PR69 specimen came up for auction in the US and is now safely in the hands of my friend and TSF legend@jultorsk, who was kind enough to take the accompanying photos. Another bonus was discovering that this is the uniquely highest PCGS grading achieved for this coin as well as the only Deep Cameo.   Shame really - if I cannot find another then I shall have to remove the mortuary slab.

Just need 1 more for my youngest’s sovereign date run.

Back from grading really happy with the results  the 1911 chile 20 peso is the only 1911 graded example!!

Lovely 1911 Florins Matt, here’s mine, although I have graded the Gold from the set, I agree with @Simmoleon it’s always a pity to split sets and grade, the Silver just looks far too nice in my cabinet to grade.

 

Next arriving today (despite the strike) is a double 2002 sovereign from @Skelator88.  I have bullion full and half, so this (sort of) builds on that set.

Bit of haymarking, which I think adds to the 'character'.
And it's got the wrong crown according to Marsh, should have 4 more pearls?

Three 70 graded coins makes for a good start to the day.
Thanks @GoldDiggerDavefor checking these coins to make sure there were no RM quality issues and having them graded by NGC with the first release label. 

To be honest, it could have been far worse but PF64 cam was the lowest grade I expected it could get. Was expecting 65 or maybe 66 with an outside chance of the UC on it. The grades on the 8 silver coins from the same set are shocking to be honest, nearly all PF62 (6 out the 8 ) but in-hand I’d expected a 64-66 on them. If I get chance, I’ll compare 3 different 1911 sets and I’ll be honest the inconsistency in grading to me is plain to see. I am no grader but on most coins I’m not far off but 1911 proofs make no sense (to me).
edit: I have added the photos from NGC which never done a coin just and the half is showing a few marks and I’ve seen many like that have a cameo attribution so I suspect it was close. The sovereign does have a small blemish near St George’s head which can be the only explanation as to the eye it’s a very nice example and under a loupe has minimal hairlines and marks.

Found this little beauty out in the wild.

I would agree 100%.  I bought into the Great Engravers as well, not for profit as much as I like the designs.  I  might be a little behind in value but I still like the coins.  
A major difference I see is that people are comparing a historic design, the 2022 sovereign for a new monarch, with a copy (GE series) of a historic design. 
If we all had an original Una, Three Graces, or gothic crown we would most likely be pleased with the return.  I think the same can be said for the sov, this one is destined for significance, maybe just not next week or even next year- it will age like fine wine.  Just my opinion……..

If you like it, buy it and enjoy it. If you don't like it, save your pennies and spend them on something else. Simple really. 
Individual opinions matter not at this stage and only time will tell whether this design is a flop or not. I personally think its the best design I've seen so far and am quite happy to spend some of my savings on 5 coin set. 

It's been a curious release. I bought early and was happy to get the one item I ordered. To think I was rushing so much to check out I almost forgot my password. But now, with stock still available days later it means I will not have to look back on this release with any regrets. I've had plenty of time to second guess whether I should purchase more but also to reflect on what I have bought and relax, without overstretching my finances in the moment and without the dreaded FOMO.
I will say that regardless of how these coins perform on the secondary market I just think it's a great looking coin and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I feel lucky to be in a position to buy gold with everything that's going on for so many at the moment. I think in the end, for me, that's enough.
 

I bought the beast today, early xmas prezzie from the Mrs and I think a tacit agreement or at least acceptance of the stacking habit, im going to do it up and have it in the dining room, her only condition was to put a plant on it 🤷‍♂️.  Just trying to work out if i dare stick it in the back of my motor or if im better off paying for a courier.  The seller reckons its about 200kg.

I like the rococo design of the memorial sovereign and I feel JC has put some life into the Lion and Unicorn.  TN is a cleaner design…..I do think the the memorial sovereign might look lost on anything smaller than a double sovereign.
