    i don't think it is the court's business if Mrs Vardy has been leaking - if she needs Tenor Lady that's a private matter. She does have my sympathies - many of us here are well acquainted with choppy seas and capsizing boats. There is just so much bad luck around these days. i blame Climate Change.

    Just for future reference the issue about Brexit is not about gold it is about Sterling. Gold is not going to go down the plug hole because of Brexit. What the UK does is neither here nor there. The British Empire was thrown away financing WWII when peace was the stroke of a pen away, after that we became a virtual irrelevance. So unless the Bank of England comes clean about stealing all the gold and selling it, the UK's antic aren't going to make a big impact.
    If Brexit does not go the way the powers that should not be want it then expect Sterling to be pounded (to use a pun). This is exactly when you want to be in gold. When things look dodgy go to gold.
    You should have sold on the forum. The coins would have sold over the weekend especially as it is the end of the month when quite a lot of members are paid. i would say this is THE safest place to sell. If you sell to longstanding members you will get paid. A few months ago i bought a sovereign on the forum. It did not turn up. The member refunded me. Then it turned up and i sent the money back.

    As far as the Mayfair Coin Company / Johnson Matthey bar - yes they are 1 lb weight so 453.6g. They came in a plastic bag in this amateur looking wooden box - the ones i have seen were 1969. The year being marked like this in what appears to be black felt pen.
    They are a collector bar. What you might get for one is anyone's guess. Some days it would be more than others. The actual silver spot price is £242.55 - i would expect at least twice that price for such a bar, personally i might go a bit more.

    @LawrenceChard
    i have tried to find out who the maker of these Sheffield bars is - who CLM is. I've never been able to work it out. There is a Construction Marine Ltd in Sheffield which does civil engineering but i can't find anything that did silver bars. As i understand it they have gone out of business and the bars were picked up by Silvertrader.uk and marked up as Albion silver bars.

    There are more sales coming to the forum. There are a few who have fallen on hard times and had to sell - or they are raising money for other reasons. However the sales thread is being flooded with commercial sales, many coming from north of the border.

    An interesting vintage bar. Cascade Refining. Just got it off the forum. They didn't make many of these odd weight bars.
    The serial number on the bar is the date when it was cast so in this case the 14th April 1989.

    i also notice he handed over a big wad of cash and the woman at the building society doesn't bat an eye. i suspect you would get the third degree nowadays. i remember when i withdrew £6500 in cash from the bank for the deposit on my marital home, i don't remember any issues and i put it in a supermarket bag and took it to the solicitors - no questions were asked. This is how it was in England.
