I'd guess most folk run up $3000 monthly expenses?

100oz a month.

Do you have enough, and for how long?

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live.

  • Roy changed the title to How much silver is needed in a crisis?

I've often asked myself this question too and I presume when you say 'crisis' you mean some kind of SHTF event like social/economic collapse, tsunami event, war, natural disaster, pandemic (a real one) zombie apocalypse or whatever..😁

The question which is always uppermost in my mind is not so much the quantity of silver you would need but whether or not it would actually be accepted as a barter currency in such an event,  and if so what format would you use it in. For example if you had all of your silver in one ounce format like Britannias, and even if you had a few hundred of them you might find yourself shelling them out at an unacceptable rate and overpaying for stuff you might need but which doesn't match their value, so for that reason it might be better to hold a good quantity of it but in a variety of different denominations.  Smaller denominations might be preferable as a rule of thumb rather than 1kg bars for obvious practical reasons.  Again the question arises of whether it would be accepted as currency or not, and on that basis I would consider diversifying on any kind of portfolio of barter items (if you have such a thing) and maybe keeping some packs of cigarrettes, razor blades, bottles of alcohol and such like to trade if it ever gets to Mad Max proportions.

It kind of leads us into prepper land a bit when you start discussing possible crisis scenarios where you have to use your silver to survive doesn't it lol.

It's all rhetorical but I imagine silver would find a good home in a crisis and be useful if Fiat disappeared, although maybe only to a point because ultimately you can't eat it or drink it. Personal skills would always be tradeable commodities too and people with tradeable skills like plumbers, sparkies, brickies etc as well as doctors, dentists and the like would undoubtedly come into their own in such an event...  Double glazing salesmen might struggle a bit..  🤣

You could throw ideas around on this kind of thing and have fun discussing it all day, but In a mega crisis diversification would seem to be the logical key rather than simply relying on a stash of a single item like silver or gold to get you through.

@HerefordBullyun this guy has enough Brits for all of us to be safe for at least 3 years

I have no clue what you are talking about. Brits never heard of her!😁

Sound money is not a guarantee of a free society, but a free society is impossible without sound money. We are currently a society enslaved by debt.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

Fags, batteries, petrol, shotguns… er shotgun cartridges.  Tinned food bottled water.    But all of this is irrelevant compared to the most important prepper requirement

as we saw at the start of Covid.  Cushelle bog roll
