i suspect in 1753 when prices were written people would put 1 ſ 3 - they knew the ſ was an 's' for shilling. By the time we get to 1953, people had long forgotten the old form of s and as it was written it evolved from ſ into a /  because people just didn't realise what it really (had) meant.
i can vaguely remember pre decimal prices as a child - i just asked someone else who lived during that period and they didn't realise either.  Amazing, i love finding out something new.

This is huge. The chance of a serious war is higher than it has been for decades - both sides are talking nuclear. This is when gold comes into its own. Except the paper price in dollars is falling - China doesn't believe this nonsense. Gold will be arbitraged West to East.

@Arganto - yes indeed - it isn't an upside down J - it could explain why the J is not used b/c in the early hallmarks it could be confused - a theory i just made up now.
This is an archaic form of s - as shown here.

i discovered something new out of this - in the pre-decimal era prices would be written like this 7/11 - this was seven shillings and eleven pence. The / is not an oblique separating the numbers it is an old s for shilling.

I'd say 1753 which is technically an 'S' but appears thus:

These marks are old - the leopard wears a crown (London Assay Office) and Fuller White was making silver in the 1700's.
This collection of marks is given as being from 1752. i don't have time to look now but this is the sort of time period to look at. The date letter looks like J which hasn't been used for a long time but i don't know about the situation as early as this piece is. Certainly not 'pseudo marks'.

i am referring to a 2004 clipping from the FT that Mario has referred to on several occasions. He says he cut the article out. Perhaps not the article you are referring to. He is selling mugs with this on the side of them.

i think there are shortages at the current prices. The US Mint has scaled right back on production but they won't pay the going rate so they can't get the planchettes. Perhaps Robert Kiyosaki was after US coins and in that case it wouldn't surprise me if a dealer was struggling to get hold of stock. Personally i just keep adding to my submarine stack, at this stage of the game we should all be diamond hands unless needs force us to be otherwise.

Yesterday Robert Kiyosaki posted on Twitter that his coin dealer had told him he couldn't get any gold or silver. i suggested he join the TSF as a premium member.

A member put up 4 x 2022 BU sovereigns this afternoon - they have sold now. As a non-premium member you would have missed these.
i agree put up a WANTED advert on the selling section of the forum. Members can then contact you on that thread or in a private message.
    Why do you want 2022?
Gold is gold - unless you are collecting specific years - say what i presume will be the last year of the QEII sovereigns then go for value - don't get hung up on specific years.

I'm pretty sure coin dealers won't want to deal in picture frames, spoons or brooches but coins in monster boxes.
Besides, do you know the Bargain Hunt episode you been watching is not last year's repeat !? 😁

Hi, thank you for tag, @HerefordBullyun.
Unfortunately, your cellar salts are cupro-nickel, not silver.
Are made in USSR before 1969 by a soviet company named Yummet. The number 5 written before the company's name is showing the number of "artel" from which company belongs. Probably, 5 was allocated for artisanal metal craftworks, I don't know for sure.
An "artel" can be described according Wikipedia as "a small workshop, ostensibly co-operative, but actually under government control."
These artels been disolved from 1969 and replaced by another type of cooperative organisations, with more control from communist authorities.
About the what is written on the bottom, it is easy: the prices.
One of them was 8 roubles and 00 kopecks, the second was cheaper: only 4 roubles and 00 kopecks.
i will attach another one for 4 roubles and 50 kopecks, downloaded from Etsy.
    I hope this helps.
    Kindest regards,
    Stefan.
