I found a nice Italian resource on Marenghis as to how they refer to LMU and other 20 Franc-sized coins. While there doesn’t appear to be a clear reference, the 20 Franc pieces of the Cisalpine Republic which were introduced by Napoleon after his victory over the Austrians at Marengi marked the introduction of this new coin format in Italy. Ever since it seems the Italians refer to these coins as “Marenghi”. Reminds me a bit of the story of the coining of the term “Americano” for watered-down Espressi.
This resource is in addition to the German resource @whuamai introduced and covers some later proof issues to similar spec that I wasn’t aware of. Since it is a little database, it also shows the different mints that used to coin 20 Franc pieces. (There are a few gaps e.g. 1879/80 20 Bolívares were minted in Brussels and 1886-88 in Caracas, which isn’t mentioned).

The translate buttons don’t seem to work in any language though.

Today I received (or received this week at least) a couple of forum purchases. A circulated 1/2 Sovereign to take the 1872 spot in the album courtesy of @1stsovereign and a stunning 1877 Dutch 10G courtesy of @stackerp5.
Not the LMU/LMU-unit conforming stuff that I'm focused on at the moment, but wonderful pieces of world gold nonetheless. Thanks to both!

Not had any coins delivered in ages 🥲  But this turned up today a piece of craftsmanship.  Fiskars axe with a hickory handle.  Still working on my wood stack and I'm convinced it will out perform gold this year!

Not an expert , but the fixed peg can change .
which means that if the rubles strengthens (which will be the case) , they can change the fixed ratio gold/ruble.
Great to see a "dedollarization" happening.

Another couple of coins to add to my Ghana collection. Just 2 more left. Great condition. Loads of history of military coups, government initiatives and monarchies told through the coin design. Very rare and ever been graded by NGC so I’ll be sending them off to be preserved 😊

A lovely 1953 New Zealand Commemorative Proof Set.  Inaugural Portrait, fantastic Reverse designs and nicely presented.
Sets don’t come much more satisfying to own than this.  My favourites are the Crown, Florin and Penny 😃

I think the problem with gold and inflation has changed a little bit during the last decades/ century.
When you have a global inflation ( like we have now ), gold is not the best protection against it in general.
But when you are talking about inflation ( or better hyper inflation ) in a smaller context like a country or a region that is economical and political not so important, gold is THE best protection, not just against inflation but for becoming richer with every day.

That is in my opinion what has changed during the years, we have now less currencies and individual countries. We have many political/ economical blocks and key currencies who are all in one big construction.
Only the smaller and less important countries fall out this protecting bubble and pay the price.
