Why would a person be in possession of a butter knife when travelling abroad? Had you packed crumpets too? Now, there's an alibi
I used to carry a micro screwdriver in my wallet because my glasses were forever loose. Used to 😔

10oz is a nice stack, a good insurance policy and I'd leave it alone. Forget about it and stop looking at the gold price!
It will always be there when you need it.
As mentioned, now is the time to look for other opportunities, although perhaps you already have?
The point is, you can afford to take some well researched risks with stocks, miners etc. or even cryptos because you have something to fall back on.

I was going to say "No you can't!", but that would be grammatically, logically, and factually, incorrect, as you can, and you did, so...
    No you may not!
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, and I believe in free speech, but there are some things you should not say on TSF, at least not if you want to have any friends left.
Actually, I asked a few Chards staff recently, and was astounded that some of them said they preferred the red colour rather than the yellow colour.
I should have re-phrased the question and asked if they were buying a gold sovereign, which colour would they prefer to get. I hope the answer to this would be yellow, otherwise we either need new, replacement, staff or the current lot need to go for correctional training! 😎

That would be interesting to know even though I have no intention to smash it open.
Its value in terms of gold, to me, is irrelevant.
I think, but I might be wrong that its granite. I don’t know what vein of rock gold formed in.
I will tell you one thing, that you might appreciate being a military man yourself. The year before my grandad handed me this ‘sparkly’ rock he gave me his service medal and I truly treasure this.
    100% priceless.

    Here it is.
I’ve spoken about this ‘rock’ on a few occasions on the forum and yesterday I found it!! I knew it was here somewhere and I found it. I don’t think I’ve seen it for 3-4 years.
    So what is it?
It has travelled half way around the world, it was found in Australia and belonged to my grandfather. My grandparents went to visit family in Perth some time in early 80’s. As a child I was fascinated by it, I remember on many occasions looking at it. To me as a child it just looked like a rock with ‘sparkly bits’. It was always on a shelf in the kitchen, I apparently used to always stand on a chair to look at the ‘sparkly rock.
Many, many years later I visited my grandparents and my grandad said, as I was leaving, “I’ve got something to give you” as he handed me this rock. I declined it and he said “No you must keep it, it’s from our holiday in Australia in the 80’s”. He insisted I took it and reminded me that I was, in his words, obsessed with looking at it as a child. Maybe that’s when the seed was  sown. I like sparkly bits maybe, no, that doesn’t sound right.
So here it is. My grandad passed away around four years after he gave this rock to me and I still miss him and his stories of The Second World War.
I thought I’d share it here with you all.
For me it has such huge sentimental value. I guess and this is a guess, it has maybe a few grams of gold in it.
Would I smash it open? No.
Do I wonder what it’s gold content is? Yes.
But the memories are more important to me and I intend, curiosity aside, to pass it onto the next generation. I am, afterall, only the guardian of this rock.
My grandad means much more to me than a rock, of course, but I intend to pass this onto the next generation as it was handed to me. Intact and a mystery as to just how much gold this rock holds. For all I know it might have a large nugget inside.
(excuse the bad photos, taken with the flash on)

No greyhound track, but there is a fantastic rowing lake.
You might be surprised, but the Lakeside Darts is surprisingly popular with quite a few public schoolboys.  Like most sports, people don't care where you are from or who you are, but get on when there is a shared interest.
I find this particularly with fly fishing - I fish at a lake in the Mids a few times a year and meet everyone from roofers to Judges and all are equal when fishing.  I did once meet a tax inspector, and I made an exception to my normal rules 🙂

In the last 20 or so years, the economic mantra has been to simply borrow, essentially making it someone else's problem in x years time.
Not since Thatcher has a PM favoured balancing the books irrespective of the pain.
Essentially, politicians have realised that borrowing and making life easy for the electorate in the short to medium term keeps them in power.... But there will of course be a day or reckoning....as any individual knows to their cost if they cannot repay what they borrow.

Usually, the North of England is always good at accepting Scottish notes - The Geordies have never objected my Scottish notes in my whole experience when down there. Once in Blackpool (at a bar in a hotel), a few times in other cities across the Northern part (Manchester, Leeds and York).
The hastle is too much in London, never will I take down Scottish notes again to that sh*thole.
And by the way, I am sick of McDonalds in England not having Irn Bru, its a complete disgrace! The insult is astonishing. *shakes head*

Anecdote: somewhere in the 1980s or 90s, a couple found hidden under the timbers of their attic a bundle of 20 Mark Banknotes, a couple hundred Mark hidden away by possibly their grandparents. Hidden away for a rainy day. If the cache had only contained the same in 20 Mark Gold Coins...

Me mate Denzil swears by the Peugeot/Citroen motor, he's run them for years. He once put a 2.1(?) in the back of his T2 camper.
Apart from tanks, I hadn't heard of diesels running on oil until I saw a Fiat Ducato 2.8 self destruct when its turbo seals failed.

If you want a good fuel tax dodge look for an old diesel without an electronic fuel pump or direct injection. Run the bugger on part mix filtered used oil/diesel or if you don't mind rebuilding mechanical fuel pumps every now and then (and rolling the dice on cold starts) forget the diesel...
I wish I'd kept my XUD9 Xantia estate tucked away somewhere. Rode like a magic carpet and everything could be fixed with basic tools and foul language. Bliss.
Government scrappage schemes are a scam. They use tax payer money to do it and take perfectly useable vehicles off the road. Grrr, argh etc.

As others have mentioned, selling to dealers is hassle free. I will normally sell privately where possible, but if the margins are good, I am happy to sell to a dealer and have done. I am not a wealthy man, but my day job pays me a better hourly rate than selling coins privately v to a dealer allows. When offered cash in hand, hassle free, I will take it every time if the difference is a few hundred pounds and it would take me hours to sell, have to package and then risk Royal Mail in sending it out - it may sound arrogant, but my time is generally worth more to me than a larger sale price. I think sometimes this notion is not considered heavily enough in the balance.
