Articles about the coins make it sound like they was all submitted by the same people/ company, so it is a little strange how theres been no public record of how many coins they slabbed.

Maybe it was the company that owned or operated the bullion vault in the twin towers basement.

    Nice coin.

Im looking to purchase one as a gift for someone one. The thing i cant get my head round is how they haven't been documented very well.

Do you know how the ones with grades managed to get a grade and not just get a recovery coin slab?

The coins with 1 of 1000 or different number are confusing me to what that refers to.

AFAIK, the early submission were in batches or group of coins and were only authenticated (hence 1 of xxx). Later submissions were graded and no longer had the 1 of xx number batch).

The more popular of these WTC recovery coins would be the American Eagles (Au, Pt & Ag) with 2001 year and MS69 grade.

  3. I’ve gifted gold bullion coins to nieces’ and nephew’s wedding varying from 1/4 to 1/2 troz China Panda (depending on Au spot at the time).

For my daughter’s wedding, I gave her a silver six pence dated 1885 (she was born 1985) for her shoe at the wedding. And gave her and my son-in-law a 1 troz Au China Panda.

    For my grandkids:

I gave the oldest a proof Sovereign with his birth year and 1 troz Au Canada Five Blessings coin.

and his younger twin siblings (girl and boy) 1/4 troz bimetallic Au/Pt Angel & Noble from IoM (Pobjoy Mint) and 1 troz Pt US PF Eagle & 1 troz Au Australia Year of the Monkey.

  4. Bought in late 2000 and early 2001, I have 2 Maklouf effigy 5 Sovereign ‘U’ marked from the secondary market. Regular (1985) and Couped (1987) Maklouf effigies. Might be worth looking into.

Only have the one 1oz Panda, seen here with 4 others enjoying their breakfast at the Chengdu Panda breeding centre.

Like you, not keen on the 30g versions - that must be 1.1035g less gold than the 1oz!  Same price maybe! 🐼🤔

FYI - 1994 small date minted at Shenyang is scarcer than the 1994 large date minted at Shanghai.

Is the 1999 £5 Diana memorial coin a quintuple sovereign?

Also, are the gold £2 coins, (eg Marconi, the one like a football etc) double sovereigns or just a gold variant of a standard coin? 🖖

No, not a quintuple sovereign. They are 5 Pound Sterling gold coins with a slightly bigger diameter than quintuple sovereigns.

The 2 Pound Sterling gold coins you mentioned were issued also as part of the Sovereign proof sets on their years.

I’ve just realised that out of my 5 coin sovereign set, 2 out of the five don’t say ‘sovereign set’ on the label🤷🏻‍♂️(full sov & half)

Not that it bothers me much, is this just NGC being NGC or should I request it be rectified?

First and foremost, did you submit the 5 coin set to NGC for grading or did you buy it from a third party as a NGC graded first release 5 coin set (they may have mixed in the sov and half sov which were NOT part of the original 5 coin set)?

Hi there, can any one tell me what is the standard price to pay above spot for a 1 oz Krugerrand, if I am selling? About 5%?

In the US, expect to pay 2-3% premium when buying. If you’re selling, melt or spot is already high.
