Twas the day before xmas and a last minute couple of naughty but nice purchases 
 

I wasn’t quite sure where to go next after my initial foray into historic sets and to follow on from my purchase of the 1902 Edward VII Matte Proof Set.  
Decided on this beautifully preserved 1911 George V Proof Coronation Set- a tiny 952 10 Coin ‘short’ sets were issued.

That seems rather unfair!  Looking at his picture I am sure he would have made a very fine, valued and loved BBC children's TV presenter in the 70s or 80s

 

2008 RAM 1oz Silver Proof " Reg Mombassa" Kangaroo   Struck by the Royal Australian Mint, this was the second in the highly successful "Artists" series of 2007-09.   "Well-known" and "legendary" Reg Mombassa has been best known in Australia for a multitude of art works and styles as well as music. His art work has graced the Mambo Graphics clothing series, music recording covers, books, calendars and  he has even had the honour of painting one of Melbourne's historic trams. Reg was also extremely famous for his musical skills as co-founder and guitarist in the band Mental As Anything.    Oh, really? Personally I had never heard of him prior to this coin and have had zero intention of ever learning anything more, even based on this alluring CV.   "Shining through on this coin is Reg's typical Aussie larikin sense of humour for which he is so well known." Righty-ho, thanks for clearing that up. All well and good if you're an Ozzie, but a load of irrelevant tosh if you're not.   Regardless of the sycophantic gushings of the RAM, I really like this rather endearing fellow and it proved to be extremely popular with collectors too, the full mintage of 7,500 selling out very swiftly. Of all the proof Skippies. this version has proved the best "investment" and is still highly sought after - as, indeed, are the both its FrUnc and gilded counterparts.   Huge thanks to @CadmiumGreenfor his invaluable assistance in delivering this.

This beautiful .999 silver butterfly mounted on a piece of oak from Riverbank Silver (@riverbanksilver). I was unfortunate to miss out on his auction so he very kindly made another for me. Hope you’re all impressed and will check out his stuff.

Well the box arrived from NGC with 40 coins in (39 for my 1977 collection) So 2 NGC storage boxes full now of these goodies - mostly pretty high grades of 69-70 so very happy.

You have lost nothing in reality because you didn't buy anything. Imagine if you had joined wonga and taken out a gold short at $1200; your ignorance and naivety saved you more than it hurt you 👍
As for trusting members in trades, its only a matter of time before someone is scammed on here, however I have not heard of any trouble yet buying or selling. Trading requires trust on both sides, taking someones opinion and using it as advice is another thing all together.

No one stopped you buying at £1200 but yourself. The lesson to learn here is not to take investment advice from the nutcases on the silver forum and take responsibility.

This set of 999 Silver Gems were special made for me. Absolutely love them. We decided against stamping them as they just look so amazing as they are!

my sincerest thanks to the absolute gentleman @RegalStacker for parting with these. I fell in love having seen the review by@Numistacker some time ago and had hoped to own the silver one day never mind the gold!

Ok so not got today but here’s some interesting stuff I had saved from being melted last year. Finally got round to cleaning them.
marcasite jewellery in sterling silver. Now they are clean will be able to see what stones are missing and will have a go at replacing.

I'd be surprised if they were selling gold. Pawning, yes, it's a cultural thing.
Their economy will be badly hit.
That's not funny.

I have repatriated this 15th century treasure back to the UK from a superb US seller. The photos don’t do it any justice, its absolutely stunning and I’m very pleased!
For those interested, it is an Edward IV Gold Ryal or also called Rose Noble only minted between 1464 and 1470 and the year in that period identifiable by the mint mark in the legend, which on mine is a little difficult to ID but its a Long Cross Fitchée, if in any doubt (see the close up) there were no other crosses used in the period they were minted. This mark puts it as minted between 1469-1470, making it even rarer, only just before Henry VI was restored to the throne. On edwards second reign the mint started producing Angles which are entirely different design. The coin was minted in London, identifiable as no letter in the waves beneath the rose / kings vessel.
7.61grams of gold and approximately 35mm in diameter.
Side note: The coin was also imitated on the continent in the mint of Gorinchem for around 100yrs after this date (and also thought during Edwards exile in Belgium), these are often referred to as a “Flemish Ryal”.  Identifiable if put alongside each an original, one difference being the continental copy is often slightly larger in diameter.
NB, if anyone is wondering what the lump of dirty metal is in some of the photos, its an original brass coin weight for the Ryal that I was able to pick up from someone that had found it in the Thames mud. It was only a few pounds but I though makes a nice collection.
