Hi Guys, new to the forum and Gold in general. On the face of it, this seems like a great deal? Any thoughts on why it might not be? Thanks!

No reason for it not to be a decent deal, provided you’re looking to buy at current prices. Gold under spot is always a win. Check the forum sales page (would need a membership, sign up for the £1 trial membership and you’ll see all deals immediately) also as there was at least one sovereign under spot in the u graded section today

Nice warm feeling to see gold rise after a purchase........Or feel sick if it drops   The pain and pleasure of gold!

Still better than not having gold at all ...

100% agree with both of the above comments. Long term it’ll all play out OK and what’s not to love about a nice ounce of gold in the hand eh!

well you cant say there collectable if you can use them in a shop to buy goods and services in the USA. because there designed to be used, collectable means you don't use it. 🤔

Disagree. My wife collects clocks. Still uses them to tell the time

Well!  Whoever had their money on a D-Day SOTD sovereign were correct!  I've just received this from a dealer:

"On the 6th of June, the mint is releasing a Strike on the Day Sovereign
    to commemorate the 80th Anniversary...

    Prices:
    £850 for boxed
    £950 for MS70"

Ffs…really? Have gone down the matte plain edge SOTD route so gotta keep going now. Maybe this one best left a few months/years and pick up cheap second hand

So hence my question? What’s the point? Are they just a collectible? I’ve read your link and still none the wiser as it says what they are, I know what they are, but not what the point of them is. If they follow spot then surely you are better off with plain bullion as you can buy more of it and an easy out. For example, if I bought 5k worth today I could get just under 1oz of gold in these or just over 2oz of bullion. In my simple mind I’d rather the uplift of 2ozs rather than 1oz! If they don’t follow spot what do they follow?

Spot on. Exactly right in my opinion. I buy the sets each year from Andrew as they’re novel but the real gains are sought thru gold bullion
