Silver will tarnish very quickly. So I'm leaving that in the cold cupboard downstairs next to the broom cupboard. I'll draw a map for everyone later .... 😉

But it seems that every time I do this, someone will pop up with "Aha! Bobbity Bits & Co", who I've never heard of, have it for £50 less today.

When I was a lad I worked at a company who processed gold silver and platinum for JM and Engelhard. I would often have to carry coils of gold from the safe to a press, I can remember they were pretty heavy, probably 10 kilos or so. I never really thought of the value cos at that time I had no interest in precious metals, beer, music and lasses were the priorities. I was young and daft but good at carrying heavy things, now I'm only one of those things.

If anyones interested, if you're ever in London you can see in the flesh and touch/ lift a 'good delivery' bar at the bank of England museum. Free entry to and quite interesting

Aye we used to slit and stretch the coils of raw material to make expanded mesh for them. Think it was used in jewellery and medical devices. We had some photos around the place of Michael Caines wife wearing earrings made from the mesh. Think the silver was used in batteries as a catalyst because once it was formed into a mesh it had a large surface area and low weight.
When I started in 1977 precious metals were a decent part of the business but over time the development of alternative, cheaper materials meant it gradually declined.

SeatonKev reacted to AuricGoldfinger in 2023 Stacking goals? The year ahead
I would like to get my full stack to 2 KG of gold. All CGT free, either full bullion sovs, brits or MIGHT start collecting the Tudor Beasts but foolishly turned my nose up at the 1st one so guessing there is premiums to be paid on that.
Not sure how realistic the target is as i have a few other non PM related goals - and all depends on what the price of not only gold but everything else does this year.

SeatonKev got a reaction from AuricGoldfinger in 2023 Stacking goals? The year ahead
I'm working my way toward owning a kg of gold. All being well I should be able to buy about 100 grams in 2023 and pass the half way point.
As usual I will promise to keep away from proofs and overpriced special issues and concentrate on bullion sovereigns and bars. As usual I will break my promise, probably during January.
Will get 3 or 4 2023 sovereigns and have been hankering after a 1oz poured gold bar for ages, hopefully 2023 will be the year I get one.
I think I'm on about 4kg of silver so getting to 5kg should be doable, made up mostly of 1oz coins.

Evening all. Have checked the forum rules and believe this post to be OK. In case anyone would be interested in having something custom made to house their coin collection I came across this guy in one of the FB groups. Veteran by the name of Wayne Rowlands that has a company called Box it. With his permission I’ve added a couple of pics of what he can make and thought others here may find it of interest. Has nothing to do with me and no personal interest in anything other than seeing a new audience brought to a craftsman and veteran that served his country 👍🏼

For me:
1. Keep on putting bullion sovereigns in tubes as often as I can (when offered or found at close to spot);
2. Maintain the half sovereign collection - mainly through grading with PCGS;
4. Finally work out what to do with the 10p trial piece I have had for a few years that not even the Royal Mint can offer a definitive explanation for; and
7. Learn how to count.
