It might be the light but just to the right of the 'E' of EDWARD could be a ding in the rim. Maybe the damage is on the rim rather than the obverse/reverse or you should consider resubmitting?

Yea, potentially there could be damage on the rim, does look abit warped near the E. But you would think if it was bad enough to warrant a damage grade it should be noticeable from the front/reverse.

I might resubmit it, but knowing my luck it would just end up with the same grade.

Ill see if I can see any damage when I receive my PCGS photos.

Looking at the coin in hand is better than a picture. From the picture i can't see anything specific that would merit the grade

I did Inspect them both before I sent them and I didn't notice anything that would warrant giving it a low grade, never mind a damaged grade.

I wish PCGS/NGC would give reasons as to why they apply these grades, especially when the damage isn't clearly visible.

The damage to the nose on the 1908 is worse than anything I can see on the 1910.

  3. Well I have received my grades from PCGS, some good news and some bad.

My 1902 Proof Matte coins all received pretty decent grades and the Sovereign and 1/2 Half Sovereign both actually got graded, these I was worried about as at the auction they were marked as "Cleaned". PCGS seemed to disagree with this.

The bad news is my 1910 1/2 Crown got "Details Damage" which I disagree with. The 1908 was in much worse shape and actually has a few marks on it and yet got a grade.

The 1910 was bought from auction and was described as EF or better.

Maybe someone else can see something I'm not seeing, except for the mark on the reverse on the right side I can't see anything that would warrant a damage grade.

I'm now torn between taking it from the slab and reselling it or just accepting the grade.

Geez, is that from the June gradings or did you send direct to America? I detect the sadness that things didn't all get 70s, unfortunately there is never a guarantee when you send those coins in, the Krugs that numi sent to NGC all (i think) came back at 69 and less, my point being i don't see why anyone should feel disappointed with a 69 in MS or PF

I sent these direct to PCGS in America.

I am still happy with the result and i knew beforehand that the chance of getting a PR70 for the 2014 Britannia would be pretty low, out of the 27 graded with PCGS only 7 are PR70.

It wouldnt have been for the extra money a 70 would bring either, i just wanted a 70 grade of both coins for my own collection.

The frosting on St. George and the horse is as bad as on my unicorn.

Are you putting the coins up for sale?

I am goning to sell 1 of the 2014 Britannias and will sell the PR69 sovereign.

Will keep the other two for my own collection.

My PCGS grades have been done in record time and pretty pleased

    How long did it take?

They have had my coins since the 30/5 and am still stuck "In Process"

Sent mine to the PCGS USA due to the cheaper prices $32 vs 45 euro, in 5 days time will have been 2 months since I sent them; took 1 month just to get to PCGS.

Think in future ill just pay the Europe rate.

Pick-up #2 from the DNW auction today.  I was able to check off two boxes today from my "Want List", the 1807-A Half Franc and the 1849 Godless Florin.  I'm going to bed now   Looking forward to sending both these coins along to @Numistacker for one of his upcoming NGC submissions.

Very Nice, was tempted to bid on that myself. Lovely toning.

    Won the below myself.

Yes that was a beauty and it is a wonderful design. I have a good ungraded example that was given to me as a gift from a good friend who has been collecting since before I was even born!

I did also place a bid on that, but once it went over £2500 I knew I was bidding against people with much deeper pockets.

I already have a pretty decent graded one in PR58, but was looking to upgrade and then selling my current one.

I love the design of coins from around that era
