RDHC reacted to ChrisSilver in To ALL Non Paying Members. A Personal Story
Those sections are within the Premium Members Club, these were created from member's requests. You are welcome to discuss Sovereigns and Panda coins in the General Precious Metals, Gold, and Silver sections of the forum which are open to all members including FREE standard members. And there are indeed many many topics about such coins in those sections of the forum.
There is still a cost for TSF to provide a platform for FREE standard members, if you do not want to pay you do not need to
Also as mentioned above TSF receive no % commission from sales, out of the multiple millions of £ that is exchanged hands each year. We think that the way TSF has ran and will continue to run is very fair for all. But if you have any suggestions or concerns you are welcome to private message me:

But what would people do on the Gold monitoring thread if they didn't look at charts and discuss the minutiae of little highs and little lows? A prohibition on charts, would run the very real risk of a complete topic meltdown, and the re-emergence of everyone's love to hate subject... the TV licence... Before long the thread would be renamed the official unnofficial tv licence thread and poor gold monitoring in GBP would be confined to the dustbin of history.
Far safer to stick with the charts and furtive little snapshot monitoring remarks such as this one. Gold £1586 😉👌

I think people need to stop looking at daily charts. Price was below £1500 just 3-4 months ago!

RDHC reacted to flyingveepixie in How To Avoid The Pitfalls Of Selling PM's On Ebay!
I'm in the same position as @Organics I've been using ebay since 2001 and have seen it all. It's always been a bit of a dodgy platform in my experience, both for buying and selling, but the nature of the risks and scams have changed a bit over the years.
In the early years I found the main risks to be :
1. from hackers who simply wanted to bugger up your account and lock you out of it. That happened to me twice and I lost two ebay accounts and two paypal accounts because of it. Fortunately there were only pennies in the Paypal accounts in both cases.
2. from ebay itself, and from Paypal. Both entities were extremely dodgy cowboy outfits at the beginning, and both had a cavalier attitude towards their customers ( pretty much like they have now lol ), but where nowadays you can just send an email or (perish the thought) lift the phone and ring them and actually speak to someone, or even get them to ring YOU, it was almost impossible to contact them back in the day, and if you lost money or got locked out of your account by a hacker, it was the general rule that they couldn't give two hoots about it and told you, tough luck and you can get stuffed. Again, this happened to me twice in the early years.
Royal Mail, and other carriers can also all be unhelpful in the extreme should something go wrong. This has always been the case.
Nowadays, as we all know, there are all kinds of risks on ebay involving fake items and phishing scams, especially in the realm of pms. Not that it didn't exist before, but it's all just a lot more prevalent and blatant now, and ebay are pretty hit and miss with regards to helping you out if you get into trouble. Sometimes they will help and sometimes they wont - it all depends on whether you can jump through all of the hoops they set before you when a problem arises. As a fledgling stacker I purchased a few silver coins on ebay and as far as I know I wasn't scammed, but I've met too many people who have bought fake silver or gold on there and wouldn't take the risk myself now. I've also sold a couple of silver coins on there - a couple means two only - but was never comfortable about doing it, and in both cases spent the entire time from listing until confirmation of delivery on tenderhooks like a quivering nervous wreck, hoping I hadn't entered into a scam transaction.
Everybody is different and everybody has different experiences, but for me at least, ebay pm trading is not an option and I wont do it, but lots of others do it with regularity and with great success. It's an individual choice. I still sell the occasional item on ebay, but take every precaution I can think of, using photographs and videos, and I always send by some kind of recorded or special delivery, even for low value items. What I particularly recommend is to take a photograph of the packaged and labelled item at the post office counter when it's just about to go into the bag, that way you can prove conclusively that you have posted it.
For bigger things like guitars I wont send at all these days (although I used to). For stuff like that it's collection only from me, and if buyers don't like it, they can buy elsewhere.
BTW, there are loads of threads on ebay sprinkled liberally throughout TSF. I recommend anyone who wants to start using ebay scrolls through them for some good anecdotes and advice, as well as some spectacular horror stories and nightmare scenarios.

As ever, nobody really knows, except the usual hype this year is the real deal ^^^^ upwards
IE: David Brady, despite all his alleged analysis tools and monies he gets paid for writing them just published this:
Scenario 1: Gold breaks $2000 and falls to somewhere between $1962-$1923, worst-case $1900, my original forecast.
Scenario 2: Gold bottoms around $2010-$2020 and begins its rally to $2200 next.
I suspect most of us could have managed that, so Lord knows why people pay for such information, but based on ongoing central bank ongoing buying, seems like we here are on the right path 👍

RDHC reacted to ChrisSilver in How To Avoid The Pitfalls Of Selling PM's On Ebay!
There are some members that sell on eBay. Though the majority of members who buy and sell choose to specifically sell on TSF because it isn't eBay and because they can deal directly with the sellers.
TSF supports itself through optional paid memberships which are purchased mainly by buyers and sellers, which goes a long way to our running costs.
Thank you to those members who choose to support TSF with Premium Membership.

RDHC reacted to Britannia47 in Question Regarding Slabbed/Graded Coins
First time I’ve weighed a slab!
Obviously with a modern uncirculated sovereign weighing 7.98g compared to ‘shields’ possibly weighing slightly less, mine should be a bit heavier in total.
Therefore slab weight = 41.79g.

I had an interesting conversation with the lady at the Post Office when posting a five gram gold bar SD to another TSF member earlier today.
She asked me what was in my package. I lied and said it was a legal document but it was obvious from the shape of the package it wasn't. I complained that it was intrusive of the Post Office to insist on knowing what's in every package (if it's not a prohibited item) and that people might prefer to lie about the contents rather than disclose what they were sending if it was valuable as disclosure might increased the risk of the package being stolen in transit. She made it clear that if you do not disclose what's in the package your sending the Post Office's insurance cover will not apply in the event of a claim.
I have checked the Post Office's terms and conditions on this and she is right. You have to disclose what you're sending if you want the SD insurance cover to apply.

Falling US inflation opens door to rate cuts within months, says OECD
A rapid fall in US inflation has opened the way for interest rate cuts within months, the OECD said, but it warned that Britain would suffer from the G7’s fastest price growth. The OECD’s interim outlook, published on Monday, predicted US inflation of just 2.2 per cent in 2024 and 2 per cent in 2025 — among the lowest rates in the G7.
The Paris-based organisation said that only in Italy would price growth be less this year. But it forecast the UK would be burdened by the G7’s highest inflation rate, at 2.8 per cent this year and 2.4 per cent in 2025, underscoring the battle faced by the Bank of England in reining in price growth.

This is an interesting observation. Jerome Powell may be pointing out that even after rates are cut, they will remain relatively high, which could have an impact on a number of factors, including asset prices such as gold. At the same time, the strengthening of the dollar may be one of the factors putting pressure on gold prices.

RDHC reacted to MBTPSilver in Gold Monitoring Thread £ GBP only
Jerome Powell was talking earlier and restated that rates will remain higher for longer, even if there is a cut in 2024. Dollar stronger so gold slipped. People are becoming desensitised to all the Middle East stuff it seems.

Overall most banks remain heavily short gold, although overall market sentiment remains bullish;
meantime, hang onto your hats and buy any dips, we may, albeit briefly, see prices in the 1580's once again.
