  1. That's crazy, they haven't even finished releasing the 2022's yet, aren't we due another SOTD and a normal issue proof piedfort? For the 2023 sovereign my money would be a pimped up privy proof and normal issue bullion, they'll just keep it to the standard format they have been following recently.
  2. Definitely! If you have your personal finances in order and want to get into metals I'd buy an empty sovereign tube and look to fill it up with 25 sovereigns, it's a good target to aim for. Be careful of getting into the pretty proof coins, time and time again people lose money on them when they go to sell. That side of the coin industry is totally different to investing in bullion but is very appealing, psychologically it appeals to the collector/completist instinct but can turn into a bit of a money pit.
  3. In the past I've wondered whether buying a really ugly details cleaned coin and cracking it out the slab and getting someone to do the cleaning properly would be a cheap way to get a nice coin in my collection. Relying on the grade only is a bit lazy really, some coins definitely have more eye appeal than others even though they have the same grade. I don't collect the morgan dollars but some of the rainbow toned coins are lovely.
  4. That can be frustrating on ebay, when you sell something at a very good price for the buyer and they don't leave you positive feedback.
  5. I think every time I've contacted Chards it has been Mandy who replied, I'm actually quite surprised to find out there's more than her working there 😀 On a serious note I'd love to own one of them, one of the gold bars that is not the "Original Man" t-shirt that is 😀
  6. It looks like a coin that a pawn broker is selling for £50 over spot when they bought it for £50 under spot off of someone in desperate need of money, looks quite pricey!
  7. My personal gripe with the metaverse is how easy it is to duplicate. Say if you have all your digital assets in metaverse 1.0 and they say actually we're going to scrap that and go over to metaverse 2.0, all your assets can potentially go up in a puff of smoke!
  8. Sounds like you're going to take Chards in a totally new direction with this new business plan 😀
  9. The trouble is ebay is a bit of a jungle, if a seller on there is mentioning condition they are usually overstating it. There's just a bit of luck as to the price you get for your coins on ebay, I've listed items that were identical to previous sold listings and got no where near the same price, it's just the risk you take. I've seen listings where the seller has put up stock images of the bullion silver coins they were selling instead of pictures of the actual item and they sold.
  10. I think changing the monarch on the obverse will just mean coin collectors will go out and buy more coins, there are so many completists out there. I'm pretty sure whether you are a monarchist or not doesn't have much of say in whether you collect coins or not. There's so much to like about collecting coins, the art on the coin, the history, the variety, every imaginable price point, having the base metal value to fall back on. For me there is a big correlation between the price of precious metals and how popular coin collecting is at any one time, higher the price of the metal, the more people find it an attractive hobby. I'm not so worried about youngsters not collecting coins at the moment because later in their lives they can always start, I'm sure many of the forum members took it up later in life after realising the benefits of holding precious metals as a part of their savings and then moving into collectables, it's just a natural progression. My main worry would be if everyone in the world moved over to digital currency and circulation coins disappeared, I think it would have an impact on coin collecting but not kill it off, and I'll be long gone if that ever happened so not a major concern for myself.
  11. What a terrible coin (if you can call it that!), even Paul Kruger seems to be in on the joke, his nose seems to have grown like Pinocchio's 😀
  12. Probably just about scrape a PF68UCAM at NGC with conservation 😀 I'd love to see the coin collection this one is going into, if they can spend about £1million on one coin I shudder to think what else is in it, Edward VIII or QEII coronation sovereigns maybe?
  13. The coin looks a bit average to me. With the colourised coins I get the impression that the colours will eventually fade and they end up looking worse than a milk spotted silver coin. In all honesty I find the rainbow symbol can be a bit confusing because I associate it more with Greenpeace from back in the 80s than the nowadays pride movement, I guess it's a generational thing!
  14. You really need to get a 1oz platinum coin in hand to appreciate the difference, it's like a gold coin, it feels really heavy for its size.
  15. The proof mintages were in-line with other special reverse releases, exactly the same as the 2017 release. They could of gone a lot bigger on those, they would of easily sold them. Tough to say what the bullion mintages will be, we're only half way through the year, if the gold price drops then invariably Royal Mint sales will drop along with it. Maybe the same as the 2012 figure of 433k?
  16. I'm sure whoever came up with the idea of NFTs wasn't really intending to get the governments seal of approval for them.
  17. Bullion sovereigns are the gateway drug to the harder stuff, once you've tasted a proof sovereign the Royal Mint then own your soul 😜
  18. The RM gold coins are just VAT and CGT exempt, if they were part of someone's estate the beneficiaries would potentially get clobbered for inheritance tax.
  19. That was ridiculous, Royal Mint new releases as popular as ever!
  20. That was the same for me, then when they started to let people in the number in queue appeared, they must have updated their system.

    Russia

I'm sure Russia can't sell their gold to most of the western countries already as the Russian central bank has been banned from doing business with them. I don't think the western countries dumping their gold and buying US dollars like they did 20 years ago would be sustainable even if they were minded to carry it out. So Boris is most likely suggesting embargos on countries who trade with Russia using gold, which would certainly be hard to implement and destructive to world trade and relations.
  22. It looks as though King James has lost a lot of weight over the years 😀 The more I look at the fake rim damage the more I'm put off by the design, they could have at least altered it for each coin.
  23. I've seen a few youtube videos that give you instructions on how to do this at home, basically lots of acid and you end up with a few flakes of gold.
  24. I stumbled across the RM asking for consignments for their first public auction:- The Royal Mint | Auction Consignment I guess hot on the heels of them auctioning off their trial of the pyx coins. It doesn't say the theme of the auction just that they're after RM coins, bit like asking how long a piece of string is really! Interesting to see it is mostly a 0% sellers fee auction, bucking the current trend, maybe a loss leader to kick their first auction off with.
  25. We'll probably still be fighting inflation so interest rates will be nice and high hence low-ish gold price, £1000. If I win the guessing game can I donate the prize of a jar of bum jam to charity, thanks 😀
