  1. I thought it looked like a womble wearing a hoodie, not sure what it was doing in the star wars universe 😀
  2. That's the design they used on the crown for the Queens coronation though, so probably not likely they'll use that. Now they have Charles effigy ready it must be a certainty that the 2023 will be a special reverse, I just pray they don't privy pimp it with Charles royal cypher and do something really special instead.
  3. Looks like good work on the portrait, nice details. There's going to be a ton of new coin releases with this obverse over the next year so I'm probably going to skip these two coins, although if I were a 50p collector I'd go for that one for sure.
  4. 19 days striking is a ridiculous amount, and around Christmas time as well, they're just building up problems for themselves.
  5. It is a good sign that they managed to get the Royal cypher out pretty quickly, proves the bureaucracy at Buckingham palace can't be too bad, so they should get the new effigy of Charlie boy out sooner than I was originally thinking. I still see post boxes with the cypher of Edward VII around so I'd imagine a post box with his cypher on will be rare as hens teeth!
  6. I guess that might tie in with the oddity in UK stamps where the UK is the only country in the world not to have its country name on the stamp because the monarch is so widely known. You have QEII on there so no need to put anything to do with KCIII, possibly? I would imagine with QEII collectables that it will go the same way as the Queen Victoria collectables, in a 100 years time everyone will be after the earlier items where the young head portraits are more popular than the older effigy.
  7. If that is a mini budget I'd like to see what they're going to do in a full budget 😀 Pretty sure it isn't going to change much except for adding a bit of fire to inflation, interest rates will still be going up and we will still be in a recession for 12-18 months. Nothing wrong with holding or buying a little more gold at the moment that's for sure, mind you that's probably the case 99% of the time anyway 😀
  8. I know lots of people have used plain old washing up liquid mixed with warm water to clean gold coins, I think you have to be careful not to leave any water lines/drips when you let it dry. After reading that Limonene is used as a paint stripper I probably would avoid it myself.
  9. Truth is you'll just get taxed another way instead. I've heard that in the states in the US that don't have a sales tax they just have lots of other taxes or higher rates. I'm not convinced the government wants you to save in precious metals, they prefer you to spend, save in shares or buy government bonds. I just can't see that they have any incentive to lower taxes on precious metals for the average joe and for most companies it doesn't make much of a difference anyway.
  10. It seems as though the Royal Mint had some sort of plan for QEIIs passing that they implemented that was overly cautious and unnecessary. The queue-it system being switched on for days on end/extending all their shipping times to months instead of days/cancelling their behind the scenes VIP tours.
  11. It wouldn't be a surprise if Charles obverse wasn't ready in time for the 2023 sovereign release. I know they like to do a lot of special reverses/privy pimpings and the RM can effectively change the rule book now as it has been such a long time since a monarch change but surely they won't do a commemorative special reverse for QEIIs passing. Not likely they do a special reverse for the ascension to the throne as it will most likely be the same year as the coronation. I can see the normal design being G&D with whatever obverse is available at time of release and then a one off special SOTD with a special reverse for one day only for the coronation.
  12. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185308405086 I noticed there was a listing that had ended for £800 but luckily the seller ended the auction and re-listed it for £850 best offer!
  13. I've just seen a sold listing for a bullion 2022 sovereign for £500 on fleabay, now that is a proper cynical rip-off 😀
  14. That's an interesting accessory, how many sovereigns will it take?
  15. At the end of the day Tavex are the new kid on the block and they have under cut the other dealers to get in the market. I wouldn't of heard of them or trusted them unless I had read on this forum that people had bought from them with no problems. In a few years, assuming they get established in the UK, they could have the worst premiums on the market, so probably best to take advantage of while you can. I do find it a bit odd that their 2022 bullion sovereigns never go out of stock though, it's possible that the wider coin buying market have no idea who they are. Not sure that dealers putting up premiums because demand is high is a crime, just be a savvy consumer and only purchase when you feel the price is right.
  16. The only explanation I have ever found is that the Royal Mint decided they were going to change the design on the reverse of the sovereign every year, like they were doing with the Britannia at the time, but they changed their mind after one year and reverted back to the standard design the following year.
  17. I generally split it into bullion, semi-numismatic and numismatic where the spot price has an effect on the bullion and the semi-numismatic prices and the numismatic end of things is detached from the spot price. One thing is for sure the higher the spot price the more people are attracted to collecting coins.
  18. I guess the first commemorative coin for Charles will be for yesterdays accession to the throne, not sure they could release something like that without his effigy on the obverse.
  19. Another strike gets cancelled then 😀 It makes sense, there's no way logistically they can change all their production in a weekend to cater for a new obverse and no way they can stop producing coins for the length of time it takes to implement the bureaucracy needed to change the effigy.
  20. Bit of an unfortunate typo on that listing, they put it down as a 1898 sovereign 😀 I'm pretty sure it is in the past 4 years where the prices have gone up sharply. As an example for the 1989 proof sovereign I've seen a few youtube videos from back then and they were pricing it as £900 and nowadays you can easily pay double that.
  21. I don't think they were officially allowed to say if Charles has already sat for this eventuality while the queen was alive. I know the Chancellor of Exchequer and Charles have to approve the new design that the Royal Mint use. From what I understand it is because of decimalisation that all the coins have QEII on them, before then it was perfectly normal to see coins with Queen Victoria on them and all the other monarchs.
  22. It's difficult for me to see past any other interpretation of Harry Potter than Daniel Radcliffe's image. I like that the privy mark switches from a lightening bolt to a 25, nice touch. The Royal Mint have really gone to town with the denominations, I guess they are trying to appeal to all ages with this release. I'm interested to see the Hogwarts Express design not so much the Dumbledore and Hogwarts ones.
  23. You would have thought they'd just delay production whilst having to deal with any QEII commemoratives that they need to release. The addition of the collectors box to entice people into buying the full run of coins was a great idea, it just looks like it is being poorly executed at the moment. The Tudor beasts must be a nice money spinner no way they'd stop it.
  24. Doesn't look like good news on the Queen's health front if all the Royals are rushing up to Balmoral.
  25. Nice to see they sent you a bullet with your water bottle, I guess that's the Royal Mints way of saying don't come back 😀 I can see why they might have stopped showing people around their collection, I've got a long list of coins that I'd like to see in hand so would have been in there for hours. Unfortunately that was probably the only way I could of got an original Una and the Lion in my grubby hands.
