  1. Is that the plain rim version, I think this one is the milled version? I would imagine the mintage for the milled version would be a lot higher. I'm always conflicted when I see piedfort sovereigns, sovereigns are known to represent a standard/trusted size/weight, when you double the weight and keep the same diameter are they really sovereigns anymore?
  2. Kew gardens 50p as a NFT with a crippling small mintage 😀
  3. Nice bit of history there! Did you get the coin conserved when you sent it off for grading? If you did, do you think it was worth it?
  4. I quite like this years design, they've done a good job on it. Not sure about the making waves coin though, Britannia looks as though she is standing beside Maid Marian and a generic picture of an older lady, doesn't quite fit in with the Britannia range in my mind.
  5. Some nice coins in that auction. Have they photoshopped the pictures of the Una and the Lion or is it my eyesight? It's like the coin has had the capsule removed really badly. They've mentioned the main flaw of the coin in the description so they don't have much to gain by touching up the photo's.
  6. I just watched the auction, it was £26k for the 2019 gold Kew gardens, a bit too rich for my wallet I'm afraid. It looks like the "normal" 1kg gold Una went for £219k on Britannia coin company, so that must be the starting price.
  7. The 50p Kew went for obscene amounts of money in the last auction, this one is definitely going to be a record breaker! About £300k?
  8. That's the worst one I've seen so far, it's like a petri dish growing bacteria!
  9. If you were trying to big up someone why would you mention they worked at Oak Furnitureland 😂
  10. One factor might be that people don't buy as much post Christmas as they don't have as much money at this time of year, so maybe completed sales are just generally slower.
  11. I hope it is or there's going to be a lot of angry coin collectors turning up on Sunday 😀
  12. The person who I'm buying the coin from, going to Cardiff didn't really tickle my fancy. You may have heard differently??? Anyhow I guess we'll find out for sure on Sunday, not too long to wait!
  13. It's all sold out now. People are being limited to buying 3 SOTD 50p's, so they can sell off two of them and that pays for their visit and their SOTD coin.
  14. The Royal Mint have sent out pictures of the obverse of this Sundays one off SOTD 50p visitor centre exclusive, another variation for all you completionists out there 😀 By the sounds of it not too dissimilar to the Queen on horse back we have on the current Jubilee 50p but the horse is in a different position.
  15. To be fair they wouldn't be able to guarantee the prices due to fluctuations in spot.
  16. That drives me crazy as well, it also seems a bit of a lottery whether you get charged customs in the first place. I've been in a situation when the courier has a tracker on their van and they were about three stops away from me and they decide to call it a day and mark my delivery as no one at home. That was infuriating, no delivery and a blatant lie from the courier!
  17. Are the second coins going to be released on the Royal Mint website on Monday? The ebay seller linked on the previous post was saying the RM isn't likely to publish them, which kind of makes sense as a very high percentage of the first coin buyers would have claimed the second one. There probably wouldn't be very many left to sell after that.
  18. Wow that's a blast from the past, are there actually any working telephone boxes left in the UK? 😀
  19. I was under the impression that piedfort sovereigns aren't very popular. Didn't they release them in 2017 and 2018 and then give up on them.
  20. I don't think they have to be released on the exact day, so it could be anytime this year. To give you an idea of what it will look like the Gazette describes it as a 50p with:- (c) a design depicting a globe with transmitter waves accompanied by the inscription “1922-2022 100 YEARS OF OUR BBC INFORM EDUCATE ENTERTAIN”
  21. Free postage though 😂 That's a shocker!
  22. That would be a nice service for the Royal Mint to offer though, charge the collectors a bit extra to fulfil their OCD needs.
  23. I bet some people were saying the same thing about the queen 70 years ago!
  24. You would have thought that if the flippers were returning coins on a large scale the RM would just change their selling T&C or cancel the customers RM account, it costs companies a small fortune to deal with returns. You just have to accept that at the moment speculators are going to try to make money out of coins, it's a bull market with high gold price/low interest rates/popular hobby/plenty of releases to speculate on.
