the forum is a slightly different market to that of dealers.
usually you would get a photo of the actual coin that you
are buying. this puts it more similar to that of ebay. when
the difference in prices from dealers and ebay wasn't huge,
this wasn't a problem. some forum members are pricing
their coins in line with the going rate of their ebay listings
(why shouldn't they?). bullion coins bought from dealers
have the 'it's just bullion' problem(lucky dip) so are not
directly comparable, especially to collectors.
if you think of the forum sales as a limited version of ebay
without fees, then the prices should still be competitive for
the items on offer.

I have personally found TSF to be great for bullion coins and have purchased at or close to spot. I have also purchased more premium numismatic coins with a MUCH lower premium than found on ebay and big dealers!
The current situation is somewhat unusual and I think there is generally a shortage globally of bullion for sale. That said, I still maintain that great deals can be found on TSF currently and it seems to be one of the only places where you can still buy gold and silver!!

There seem to be good deals in the trade section, if they were not good in comparison to current market prices then there wouldn’t be so many deals that complete well within the 3 day limit where they are shown only to Premium Members.
Some may prefer buying from trusted forum members as willing to pay slightly more to know the condition of the coin is good, and there are also a lot of collectors who are looking for a specific coin which may be hard to find elsewhere.
