I concur! William Wyon’s St George and the Dragon rendition is a more powerful depiction than Benedetto Pistrucci’s.

I am surprised that they have never done a G&D series of coins with different designs.

I had posted this some years back - at least they did one of them so far.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this would be the first proof version of the Waterloo, previous versions having been b/u.  I like the 2015 but imagine this in a proof finish would be a treat - sharper strike more defined.  With all the details of this medal it might be a positive change.

This has been nagging me, so I have written to the RM, questioning the 2-coin format, and the size, neither of which make sense.

@BackyardBullion - this topic could make for interesting content for a video. 🙂

I mean, at this point any video I make will have the following response from The Royal Mint:

shut up and take my money GIF by Product Hunt

They don't care. They want as much as they can before the gravy train truely ends.

I know this is probably off topic, but do people have any view on the East India Company versions of the Great Engravers? Like there is an Alderney or St Helena version of Una and the Lion, is it noticeably lesser quality compared to the RM version?

I have a St Helena version of the Three Graces, and while that might be a realistic one to get from the official RM version, I don't think I can ever justify a couple of grand for the RM version of Una and the Lion in silver.

I like them. But I don’t expect them to make a profit. Also never buy full price.

I'm not interested in selling for a profit. But do you think the Royal Mint versions are noticeably more attractive/ better workmanship?

I think it'll be especially appealing in gold

Not sure how this release will perform personally, my gut feel is saying it will be a bit of a damp squib.  But i could be proved wrong

Definitely think the gold will be the more appealing version to get because it hasn’t been done in 99.99% gold ever before.

But how many can afford 2x 2oz gold Proof coins?

Depending on mintage, it could be a really desirable modern rarity, or end up being just another expensive Proof gold coin.

Lovely! That’s at the RM Experience?

Also, I like this inverted orientation of the effigies and the horsemen on the dies better than the orientation on the medal! 😵
