After selling costly mistakes, pre 20/47 British, American junk, expensive bullion, Canadian 80%, Victorian jewellery, we'll not count those ...... My small stack now sits at £24.5. I'm glad the rest passed through my hands though as it allowed me to experience silver in a variety of forms for the first time.

There are no coin shops anywhere near me. Silver is great, when all's said and done. Very liquid the nearer to spot it gets. Beautiful when layed out with some items toned.

Gold for the hold. Silver for the fun.

Hold my beer water...

My current silver holdings, which includes flatware, hand-poured, coins, bars and everything in-between is currently standing me £44.32/oz

A lot of this is due to commemorative proof coins, especially the 2021 Gothic Quartered Arms and Portraits (which I went all-in on, +grading fees! :( )

The Gothics alone have cost me £190/oz average, and considering most got graded 69, I'll never see that back!

My silver stack is very modest at 54.607 Troy Ounces, and it works out to £26.29 per troy ounce, the main weight being art bars and poured pierces with only about 15oz in minted coins/bars.

I mostly exited silver in 2021/2022, I just about broke even on it at the time when I sold all my tubes/Britannia bars and the like and kept only what bought me joy.  The bullion I did make a bit on but it was off-set as I also sold all my proofs some of which I lost on

On paper my gold stack is in pretty healthy shape coming in at an average of £1375 an ounce which includes all my proof and graded coins, but this number may be disingenuous as it takes no account of storage costs or the additional insurance premiums I pay.  SDB costs over the time I have had one are not insubstantial and until this year I had separate specialist coin insurance as well.  I have now switched to it being included with my contents insurance as I only tend to keep recent purchases or things I intend to sell in the safe at home and then only briefly.

My SDB costs me £175 a year, I have the smallest box they have (Nottingham Vaults).  When I had separate insurance (through High Worth Insurance brokers) it was around £120 a year, now it adds about £45 to my contents.  So in recent years just the cost of ownership has been circa £300 a year, my previous SDB provider was actually slightly more expensive as well, I think the last year I was with them was £210.  If I could be bothered I would do the maths to work out the true costs, but I cant, and to be honest it makes me feel better to stick with the £1375 :)

To be honest, this is the first time I've bothered to do the calculation as most of my stack is either for my own retirement or to be passed down to my godsons.
Sitting at a little over 250Oz of silver at an average of 23.13 per Oz (i think the 10oz Tudor Beasts are what's skewing it up somewhat, but I've committed to the set and they are more bought as a nice thing to own rather than an investment per se)

Gold I'm sitting at an average of a touch over 1300 per Oz

All in all, quite happy i crunched the numbers :)

Haven't looked for a while, but surprised myself when I did (I've been buying and selling since mid 2010).

I have more than a hundred, but less than a thousand oz's each of both 999 silver bars / coins and all manner of junk silver coins (72% to 92.5%).

My average price for the 999 is £18.63.

My average price for the junk silver is £15.47.

Taking into account profits from selling silver, my average cost per oz is £11.55.

What's the highest £/oz anyone can think of for a single item?

For modern stuff, I think a trial of the pyx 1/40oz silver Britannia would be hitting £4000/oz at launch price lol.

This has to be close to the top of the list:

Think i can beat that @Roy

Total numbers of ounces of silver owned x9

  • Charles Effigy Set x2oz - £395
  • Gothic Crown Portrait x2 oz - £260
  • Gothic Crown Quartered Arms x2 oz - £260
  • Queen 2oz proof - £180
  • Platinum Jubilee (just under 1oz) - £95

Total Paid £1190 / 9oz = £132.22oz

My main silver bullion "average oz paid" stack was at £21.XX something when i stopped buying and sold it off, through 2021/2022

Without stating the obvious, but at the end of the day there are silver coins you pay loads for and some that you want to pay as close to spot as possible. Simple example are the Britannias …. stacking … close to spot as possible, then the others, such as the 2005, 2001 etc. special ones. Like gold, you try and get the best price for those type of coins and there is a fair chance you’ll get your money back and some, however, go to the local pawn shop and pay £40 for an ordinary Britannia, then …… bit of a loser🤔😮️ You have to click on to this very quickly on your coin journey…. or ‘pay the price’.😮

Oh yes…. Nice coins @Paul😮🤔
