Gazette Proclamation - Britannia and Liberty

All US Mint coins have ‘Liberty’ on the obverse (and the year). Standard on all US coinage.

I'm talking about the reverse, not the obverse. They can and do also include other words on that side.

This is going to be interesting, I can't imagine how the mintage going to be since normally US mint gold proof coins are over 10k while the royal mint is like 1k or less for one ounce gold.

Good point on mintage figures. US market much larger than UK. Keen to see how that plays out

For British coinage, KC3 is obverse and Liberty/Britannia is reverse but it is the other way in the US. Your default obverse is the monarch (which the US fought to be free of) and our obverse is the side with Liberty on it. Clear as mud?

Haha, TIL! I think the Royal Mint part of the US Mint press release confused me when they said it was a shared reverse design.

Even so, there's no reason why it couldn't have said Britannia too. I am going to put my balls on the line and say that the Royal Mint design coin is the better one. *hides*

I guess "liberty" alone is more of a motto than a design, so you have "liberty" on buffaloes despite the Indian head and the bison (both of which they also fought to get rid of)

The coin promotes liberty, freedom, history, heritage yet USA and UK are doing everything in their power to be anything but that, simultaneously trying to erode, kill and cancel the last remaining roots of it 😞

Thank goodness the coins are not made of Fe, otherwise they truly would be Ironic 😉

The US version is up on the US Mint website.  Mintage 10,000, household limit 1.  Presale starting early Feb and lasting 30 days or until sellout.  It’s a one ounce and I would guess it will be $2900-$3000.

I like it but it’s a bit rich for me, just don’t see the appeal.

also available in silver.  Mintage 75,000 price $83. HHL 2

I think it's like that. Royal Mint has countless special editions all with limited mintage, whereas in US you have very few special designs and they release tens of thousands of each. Not sure which is the better way of doing it...

The US Mint $100 Au proof coin will have a 30.61 mm diameter. This collectible coin is sculpted in 24K Gold high relief, further highlighting the very special designs.

The RM version is 32.69 mm in diameter (no mention of high relief).

So the US Mint will release the silver and gold on February 8th! And they have the images on their website already.

When is the release by the Royal Mint?

Sadly the silver going to be a medal instead of a silver coin and it a pre-order. I feel like either the royal mint will also do a pre order on the same date or they will sell it once they create a batch of it.

Given that Auragentum.de have put up offers (but without price and release date) on their website it feels likely that coins from the Royal Mint will be released soon.

It depends on what is "soon", Koala due to be released in mid-March is also being on that page for couple of months already ;)
