Have Atkins*n's lost the plot?

I like the Perth S3 lunars, and am collecting the half, one and two oz silvers. Waiting for prices to calm down a little, but almost fell off my seat earlier when I saw this...

£56.35 an ounce for bullion! Even the RM wouldn't have the front to ask for that.

Same coin at Chards...

Thoughts, especially @LawrenceChard would be interesting.

I can't think of any good reason why anyone in their right mind would pay Atkinson's price, unless it's because of so called "free postage".

Qty Chards (Excl Delivery) Chards (Inc Delivery) B*
1 £69.76 £75.76 OOS
5 £68.56 £69.76 OOS
10 £67.36 £67.96 OOS

We also have the one ounce and half ounce versions in stock, at broadly similar pricing.

They are clearly trying it on. They realise that many of our EU sources are now unavailably or a PITA to use due to shipping/vat etc and consequently they are hoping to pick up some easy money.

Regardless of the reason, they should be embarrassed.

Alas they have some crazy premiums on there for silver in general at the moment. And not to single Atkinsons out, as I've seen quite a few dealers hold the prices even after spot fell. I appreciate that they are a business and businesses have to make money, but when you are looking at spot +80% on a lot of stuff, there is no way they would be in loss making territory yet. It's already cost them my usual Christmas order as I just couldn't justify paying the inflated prices, even on stuff I'm actually giving away not putting in my stack.

I agree that premiums across the board are comical just now, but this is on a par with climbing through your kitchen window and trying to steal your microwave!

I used to buy fairly regularly from them, back in the sensible times, but they have now lost a customer.

Not looked at silver for a while, quite a big difference if you want to buy a tube of 2023 brits...

BBP: £824 😨
Atkinsons: £676
Chards: £670

If the price is not good, don't give them your custom.

Less than half the per ounce price of the 2oz rabbit. Absolutely no justification for it.

If you are still talking about Atkinson's price, I agree, but:

Quantity Premium Price Per Item (Exc. VAT) Price Per Item (Inc. VAT) Total (Inc. VAT) Est UK Delivery
1
£22.00
£58.32
£69.98
£69.98 £6.00

Makes ours just under £37.50 per ounce, compared with a single 2023 Britannia for £30.56 including postage.

Better than anyone else, that's why I've been buying from Chards recently.

I know this thread is about silver, but another comparison (I bought the cheaper option of course):

2023 Australian Lunar Rabbit 1/10oz:

Atkinsons: £204!
https://atkinsonsbullion.com/gold/gold-coins/1-10oz-gold-coins/2023-australian-lunar-rabbit-1-10oz-gold-coin
Chards: £178
https://www.chards.co.uk/2023-lunar-rabbit-tenth-ounce-gold-coins/17141

Before anyone asks, no I don't work for Chards 🤣

Yes, at the London Coin Company. And 5% on their $29.999,00 Silver Una/Lion

🤞The buyer is not Barry.

Thoughts, especially @LawrenceChard would be interesting.

It's not impossible that someone just fat fingered the data entry.  You could contact them and query the price.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

Atkinsons are not the company they once were, they were my 'go-to', dealer for a long time.

Apart from a handful of Vicky Shields which they did remain competitive on when they had stock I have not bought anything from them in the last 6 months.

I think somebody might have just hoovered a bunch of Young Vics because they were on both Atkinsons and ATS yesterday and now gone.

There was only one Young Head on Atkinsons at £365 yesterday - I know I bought it lol.  One of their items I have a stock alert set up for, forgot about that

Britannia Coins have some btw - but at £385
